In the bizarre world of today’s politics, the state of Minnesota has been shut down for eleven days because the multi-millionaires and billionaires don’t want to pay the same tax rate as the rest of us.

The top 1% pay an effective rate of 9.7% while those in the middle pay 12.3%. Check out the Minnesota Tax Incidence Study, page 55 for the details.

http://taxes.state.mn.us/legal_policy/Documents/other_supporting_content_2011_tax_incidence_study_links.pdf

Instead of considering any tax increases, the Republicans are intent on balancing the budget on the backs of the poor, elderly, disabled and middle class. They are slashing funds for education, mass transit, healthcare, parks, and road repair. They will not consider any bill that would raise taxes on the wealthiest citizens of the state.

Governor Dayton has compromised repeatedly in his efforts to balance the budget with modest increases on the highest income earners, but the GOP is standing firm in support of the super rich!

1. It's insane! Minnesota used to be the state that worked -
now some crazy Republicans have control of the Legislature. This shutdown is really hurting a lot of people.

2. Minnesota used to be a progressive state.
So, now the conservanazis have control and are going to drive it into the ditch. They want to balance the budget on the backs of workers and poor. The rich get off with a tax break.

Well, I'm at the point I'd tell the Democrats "NO FUCKING COMPROMISE". Period. Don't give an inch. The conservanazis are a terrorist group holding the state hostage. Give a little and you will get nothing but shit on your face.

"NO QUARTER"

With reasonable men, I will reason; with humane men I will plead; but to tyrants I will give no quarter, nor waste arguments where they will certainly be lost.

3. I agree completely - but the Democrats don't seem to be able to
put up a good fight. Dayton has been compromising and compromising and our horrible media is giving both sides equal blame for the shutdown. Aaaaaaaaaah!

4. Take it to the streets.
Protest any cuts. Find a pair of balls some folks hang from the trailer hitches on their pickup trucks and throw it to the Dems.

Geez, what's it going to take? I've just about given up completely on the Democratic Party.

5. It's the money. They're all dependent on campaign contributions.
Very corrupt.

6. The media is the problem
They are far too concerned with being "fair" to bother to investigate the facts. In doing so they are malinforming the public.

Minnesota IS still a blue state. We just happened to have a teahaddist surge last election cycle because the Democrats at the national level were far too influenced by the damned blue dogs and far too worried about getting Olympia Snowe's approval. When we got a tattered moth eaten healthcare bill there just wasn't enough to run on. The White house was too worried about looking whiney by calling out the most obstructionist minority party in the history of the united states and the Blue Dogs in President Obama's administration spent all of their time trying to play above the game for fear of making populist progressive promises that the Blue Dogs didn't want.

There was not proper communication of dreams, goals, and avenues for the public to weigh in. And the corporate media was far too willing to cover a puny political insurgency that was emboldened by Fox News propaganda.

7. these women are great
there are protests every day but they aren't as big as Wisconsin. The republicans are going to lose in the next elections. Sadly there will be great damage to MN.
