1. The cop sounded polite to me. No idea of the neighborhood. I think I would have

gone inside so I could have filmed the whole thing. Maybe it's an area that's had cops bullying people. Good to get that on film if so.

2. the public needs to fight back by having small, unobtrusive cameras...
If investigative reporters can rig hidden cameras, then the public need to find ways to do this, too. That cop wasn't afraid of her. He just didn't want to be filmed. Boo hoo.

Like the baggers and their ilk are always saying, "If you don't have anything to hide..."

3. They were probably going to search the original dude's car
After they hauled him off because he refused search... then something "better" came up.

4. This is why is never a good idea to talk to the police, if you don't have to
The best thing to have done was to just stay in her yard with her camera and say absolutely nothing.

Notice that all the trouble started after she replied to his question. He took her words and used them against her.

He did not ask her to identify herself, which would have been the only reason for her to reply.

The police are not your friends.

7. Welcome to the "police state".
This is why I tell my children not to trust police officers.

My, how times have changed. As a child I was always told I could trust police to protect me if I was in trouble - I would be safe. Not anymore. Now, they only inspire fear in me.

11. the USA is without a doubt, soon lost to simply being a police state, absolute tyranny
Edited on Thu Jun-23-11 04:42 AM by stockholmer
You can rationalize this all you want,(that is what the powers that be want, for certain segments to squabble over this and that in regards to this type of brutal ritualism) but the simple fact is that hour by hour, day by day, month by month, person by person, you are being turned into a land of oppression.

It matters not that this case, in and of itself, may be adjudicated away in a 'minimal harm, minimal foul' settlement to appease the victim and a certain part of the body politic, the damage has been already done by the very fact SHE WAS ARRESTED, SHE WAS TAKEN DOWN.

Each video like this has a severe chilling effect on the populace, who are further and further enticed into an innate fear of the power of the state to do anything they want, for any reason, at any time. You will submit, you will obey, you will no longer be free.

13. this is my town...
sadly - this is what some of the police officers in Rochester (and everywhere really) think the scope of their powers entitles them to. They tell someone what to do and if they don't comply they can arrest them. In response to the first poster here - the police officer was "polite," but so was she, and it is her right to be on her own property and film what is going on. Its just galling that the officer wasn't able to control himself and ignore her. - He didn't feel safe...well then its time to look for a new line of work.

15. This whole "you can't video the cops" thing needs to come to a halt....
...I respect our LEO's and their safety as much as anyone, but the People should not be prevented for recording what police are doing in public (or anywhere else, for that matter).

16. i seem to recall being told...
by various punditry that we(as people)should have no expectation of privacy when out in public. in fact there are cities that have cameras on street coreners, alley's parks etc just recording the general public. so why do the leos think they are special?

18. We have cameras here going up all over the place. It's more than a little
unnerving to be under constant surveillance. How did we ever survive as a species without constant surveillance.
