Following his Netroots Nation keynote speech on Thursday night, former Democratic National Committee Chairman and Vermont Governor Howard Dean told The UpTake that Republicans have shown in Wisconsin and other Midwestern states this winter that they work for corporations and not for the people. Dean also addressed President Obama's foreign policy, disagreed with his Afghanistan War policy, but said that, at the end of the day, despite their differences, progressives need to come together in support of building the movement.

4. The difference between Republicans and Democrats (at least at the Federal level)
Is that Republicans believe that what's in the interests of corporations is ALWAYS in the interests of the common people, and Democrats acknowledge that there is often a conflict between the two interests, but that they're clever enough to be able to BALANCE the two. They almost never succeed, and it definitely becomes a lesser of two evils situation.

Put another way:
Democrats think they can dance with the devil and still be able to walk away.
Republicans are waiting, naked, in the devil's bed.

Bottom line is this: We can and should make election campaign finance reform a top priority, and pass laws to keep corporate influences out of elections.
This will not be possible until we can change the balance of the supreme court. The conservative gang of five will always overturn any law that limits the power of corporations to buy elections.

16. Yep, absolutely
Both parties are only interested in keeping us fighting over the fringe issues while BOTH work hard to keep Corporate America well fed. We're basically a one party system at this point. They may take lots of jabs at one another in front of the media cameras but at the end of the day it's always about how to keep the wealthy happy in this deteriorating country.

2. *Looks at watch* Can we have Howard Dean as VP now, please?
I mean, seriously, we all know Joe Biden wants to be secretary of state in the second term. So, there'll be a vacancy.

12. Come on Howard
I want honesty from Dr Dean, especially now that Obama stole his 50 state election strategy and then threw him under the bus. Obama & Clinton are just as much corporate puppets as Republican.

18. Did even Howard Dean ever tell us Koch Bros. was invested in Democratic Party??
Edited on Mon Jun-20-11 11:30 AM by defendandprotect
The Rightwing Koch Bros. Funded the DLC --

http://www.democrats.com/node/7789

http://upload.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=439x498414

If you knew about this, why didn't you tell us?

If you didn't know, pass it along - !

:)

The Democratic Party harbored the Koch/DLC within the party for more than 20 years --

where they infiltrated and influenced the party and its candidates --

including presidential candidates --

Presumably Bill Clinton was our first Koch Bros/DLC candidate --

Gore would have been our second --

19. And the RW of the Democratic Party too--
let's start with the TRUTH and go from there, The Democratic Party and Republicans both have corporate ties which is public record.

I think Democratic leaders are afraid of addressing this issue because they are afraid of losing seats. And then we are expected to toe the party line of not telling the truth or be called traitors to our own party.

But as long as we play along with this lie, there will be no change.

We have to SHOW ourselves, without mistake, in great numbers, to be anti-corporate, with their names and donations flapping in the breeze on our signs and banners--and make them know who they are supposed to represent.

I don't know what flew up my wazoo this morning. I guess I have had it with illusions and games.
