Edited on Tue May-31-11 03:10 AM by WillParkinson
I must be getting senile or something. When Opie said, 'we bugged his cell' all I could think of was phones.

(On edit: More senility. I said ad instead of clip.)

12. No, you can put a bug in the room as well as on a phone line.
I think there was a classic Doonesbury strip in the 70s in which Mike & Zonker dodged a pot bust b/c the local DA bugged their hotel lamp.

21. Oh, no, I figured it out (eventually)....
I just kept wondering why they were talking about bugging a cell. Never thought about the jail cell, just cell phones. I had an airhead moment.

like we all did in the 60's and 70's like we used to in the old days that explained to folks the difference between right and wrong.

63. I don't remember watching tv prior to grade school.
I do remember at my mother's parents that channels were difficult to receive. Madison was about 40 miles away. The Bluffs might had been a factor too.

I remember having to mess around with the tuner on the back too.

I don't remember which channel we generally watched back then. Either 3 or 15 I think.

You know, before OJ and before Ford pardoned Nixon. Andy probably would've thought it was wrong to execute a retarded convict, too. What a socialist!

Socialist or not, he was the coolest guy on TV. Well, not so much in the color show days, because he was walking through it. After all, they drove a dump truck full of money into his front yard.

9. Some Folks think due process is Un-American
Go to the actual YouTube site for that video and you will find a comment that says:
"Why does Andy Griffith hate America."

The other thing is that that episode, which was in the last season was over 30 years before the Patriot act and whomever made that comment seems to might have thought it was real response directly to the Patriot Act.

Back then, it was considered a good lesson from a television show.

People viewed the world SOOOO much differently back then, some for the better, some for the worse. This was one of the betters, and they didn't really seem to have to consider what was the right thing in this instance.

I saw the Nat. touring company of "Hair" a couple of weeks ago, and the show made me long for pre-Reagan attitudes. A time before "greed is good". Sure, it wasn't a bed of roses then, but to be cool, you had to care about something other than yourself.

22. In my imagination Mayberry was a quaint town where anyone was welcome
The city slicker finding a slow down; the wayward traveler looking for a piece of pie; the bumbling detective finding a lifelong friend...

That's what Mayberry was for me when I was growing up. Maybe I was naive as a young black girl, but as an 42-year-old black woman, it's still that place in my heart.

I loved that show.

24. I hope that LOL at the end of your message meant that it was sarcastic
Because there were no Twin Towers during the run of "The Andy Griffith Show", and the Internet and access to hundreds of avenues of information doesn't negate the basic rights that we have for privacy--especially when it comes to confidential communications between our lawyers, our doctors, and our spouses.

And unless you have the entire judicial code memorized, you can't be sure that you haven't violated any law. That's why it's best to keep your mouth closed and wait for your lawyer if you're ever detained.

and there were three broadcast networks. Of course, you are correct that there was no internet where you could post your idiotic defense of the Patriot Act.

Nice to know you will give up your freedom for a false sense of security without a fight. The terrorists have defeated you.

but corporations were not the huge bloodsuckers they are now. Glass Steagall was in place, NAFTA had not been concocted and the middle class was growing. Then came Reagan. The republicans now are so far right with their Randian view they make the mob look legit. On top of those issues you mentioned we now have democracy reduced to whether or not it can turn a dollar.
