1. I did not know that kissing your girl in a memorial is illegal.
Or dancing...This country is so fucked up.

3. When can we start calling it fascism?
Freedom of speech being squashed to the level of even starting to appear to disagree with the police and you go to jail. All of these officers need to go to retraining and have a note placed in their record. Their boss and their bosses boss need to lose their jobs. With the evidence here, any attempt to squirm out of this needs to be nipped in the bud.

4. Action needs to be taken on this fascist example of brutality.
This is sick. All THUGS.....and zero respect for these officers. I know they were having fun...but to suppress "dancing" in a public site?...or kissing? Jesus...give me a break!

9. Adam vs the man
and this time, the man won. On a serious note, most of our police men need to go back for some retraining. I came to this conclusion watching to catch a predator and seing the excessive force they use in taking down the alleged sexual predators. 6-7 men and women tackling one man who is not even resisting is wrong.

This also reminds me of the storyline of IRobots, the men assigned with the tax of protecting us against outside harm is not protecting us against ourselves, protecting us to the point of pumelling and cracking our heads in order to keep us "safe"

11. America has always been like this.
All it ever takes is being the wrong person in the wrong place at the wrong time. One time you get a polite warning and are sent on your way, another time you get taken down and worked over. Nothing has changed.

13. This entire story starts with a flash dance back in 2008
The court's decision stems from 2008, when Mary Oberwetter was arrested by police for dancing at the Jefferson Memorial on the eve of the former president's 265th birthday. Oberwetter, then 28, was charged with a misdemeanor count of interfering with agency functions, and was later released.
Oberwetter sued the Park Service in 2009, saying that her arrest for dancing was a violation of her First Amendment rights. In her suit, she asked U.S. District Judge John D. Bates to stop the Park Service from preventing such demonstrations in the future.

“...the purpose of the Memorial is to publicize Thomas Jefferson's legacy, so that critics and supporters alike may contemplate his place in history. The Park Service prohibits all demonstrations in the interior of the Jefferson Memorial, in order to maintain an "an atmosphere of calm, tranquility, and reverence,"'”

The Justice Department, acting on behalf of the Park Service, wrote in court papers:

“The Memorial is, has long been, and is intended to be a place of calm, tranquillity, and reverence—a place where visitors can go to celebrate and honor Jefferson and enjoy and contemplate the Memorial itself without the distraction of public demonstrations and other expressive activities. The Memorial is akin to a temple or a shrine (both in terms of its purpose and its physical characteristics), not a place of public expression.”

I really wonder if this Judge knows the legacy of Thomas Jefferson.
