Very raw footage of what's happening in Burma. According to the youtube profile, it's a 17 year old in Myanmar posting this vid and others (this is the last one, a day ago). Sounds of shots, chanting, and people running. More here: http://www.youtube.com/user/JUVENILEBIRDS.

2. Blatant example
So the biggest, most powerful, superpower democracy with all the other rich western democracies just can't help a small country realize their democratic advances. They already elected a president almost a decade ago, and she sits in her house under arrest. If America truly was a defender of the principles of democracy, and not just a defender of corporations gluttony for "free" markets, the Burmese tragedy would never have gone on this long.

Yes China is the big trading partner with Burma (or Myanmar), and so sanctions won't work unless China is also punished for its protection of the military dictatorship. And since China now owns America's ass monetarily, nothing will be done, just like Tibet.

The Bushies rattle and give nice speeches but they are all about the money. Iraq was a windfall for pillaging, but the neo-con artists know that if America with other western countries truly liberated a country - not forcing democracy down throats, but re-establishing one that was fledgling already - China would never allow it to be a real bottom-up democracy. The result would be that giant American based multi-nationals would not gain much, so that is why no serious plan to give Burma back to its people will ever happen.
