3. As I recall, during the first Gulf War, our

military succumbed to the Saudi demand that American women soldiers not be allowed to drive.

Also, around that time, there was some kind of demonstration of Saudi women who drove cars as a protest, trying to claim the right to drive. I believe fewer than 200 participated, and they were pretty much all arrested. There was a feeling at the time that those who showed up were essentially all of the women in Saudi Arabia who could drive.

This woman is right, of course. There's no reason she shouldn't be able to drive, except that she had the misfortune to be born in Saudi Arabia. Men like the men who run that country are totally unable to accept that women are reasonable human beings who ought to be able to live their lives autonomously.
