took the House? I don't remember this happening when the repigs were in abuse of power.

Nancy, Nancy, Nancy, what you said does NOT sit so well with your base, that this is the Republicans war. For some reason I see her throwing her hands up in defeat. Sickening.

I don't know but it seems there is alot of shit going down that WE THE PEOPLE, do not know anything about, cause if we did there would be a full assault confrontation.

26. Much like comparing people to Hitler obfuscates the issue at hand ...
... I feel a more granular vomit scale may be needed.

Bush causes me violent projectile vomiting ... while Nancy's performance, with her continued "impeachment is off the table" b-s, has only progressed to the involuntary bile belch stage.

She looks like a beaten dog. Something is wrong with her eyes and all of the lip licking is new as well. Ouch for Wolfie when she had to give him a civic lesson. But hey Nancy it is your war now and you are really being snarky for someone who is refusing to do the work of the people. She looks like she has seen and been to hell and back.

Having said that, she is correct in that the republicans have taken ownership of the war and, barring dirty tricks next year, have torpedoed their own ship (thank you Mitch).

You all need a civic lesson as much a blitzer does. What the hell about rules that you don't understand? Spend some time looking up the rules that make up the government. Spend some time educating yourselves. No wonder the republicans get away with what they do. They think we are all as crazy as the people on DU that don't understand what the government is about and whine, whine, whine.

You get my meaning. These are just a few, that if this was a DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT the rethugs would waste no time not only to IMPEACH HIM, BUT WOULD CHARGE HIM FOT "TREASON".

29. you need to grow some critical thinking.
There is plenty that the Democrats are capable of that we havent yet seen. If I don't understand the rules then tell me how a funding bill clears congress without majority support. Tell me how stuff like the fisa bill could continue enabling the * administration to wreak facist ruin on this country if Pelosi, Reid and cohorts were serious about stopping it? Where was this 60 vote thing when the Dems were failing to fillibuster Alito?

I learned about the rules from watching 4 years of loosing battles and failed resistance as the republicans stifled every bit of common sense the Democrats tried to interject into public affairs. Now the shoe is on the other foot and the Democrats still act like the minority.

This isn't about rules. This is about weilding the majority with courage, creativity and will, and the Democrats don't have any of the above.

31. Try this "rule" -- PELOSI DOESN'T HAVE TO BRING ANY BILL TO THE FLOOR . . . ..
INCLUDING ANY OF BUSH'S SPENDING BILLS FOR THE WAR --

SHE CAN SIMPLY ISSUE A STATEMENT THAT SHE WILL ONLY HONOR A BILL WHICH PAYS TO BRING THE TROOPS HOME --

NOW, IF BUSH WANTS TO TORTURE THE TROOPS BEFORE BRINGING THEM HOME, I THINK THE PUBLIC WILL KNOW WHO
IS DOING THAT . . .. ???

This woman just doesn't get it. Impeachment should NOT be off the table. And why can't she just admit she and her Democratic majority are unwilling to put their foot down?? She makes me seriously consider dropping my Democratic affiliation. KEEP SENDING THE BILL BACK AGAIN, AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN, AND AGAIN......

27. I' m surprised that none of you seem to realize that there are two Houses of Congress.
We don't even have a simple majority in the Senate. Our majority is Joe Lieberman. Yes we do need the 60 votes to pass bills. The House can pass bills
all day but if the Senate doesn't have the votes, they don't go to the President. As for Impeachment, it's almost too late to do that. Members of Congress
don't have time or the will to conduct an Impeachment in an election year. They should have done it 8 or 9 months ago. Right now I think we call their
bluff and give them working majorities in both Houses. Then if they can't hack it, we throw the buggers out and get us some folks who will. Meanwhile
quit whining and name calling & do your homework about what Congress can & can't do.

28. We have the power to not let anything on the floor in both houses
that is anathema to democracy, the pugs didn't have any trouble even though they too did not have a 60 vote majority and when the dems said they would filibuster the pugs said hey we'll just obliterate the rules of filibuster and that brought the dems quickly to their knees and we got two corporate nut jobs in the supreme court and instead of saying go right ahead end the filibuster and make yourself look ridiculous they rung their hands and said oh dear please don't and gave the pugs everything they wanted. The dem congress is an "Oh dear, what can we do, we don't have a 60 vote majority" so we'll just give up the fight before it begins and no no no we cant call the rules of filibuster in to question with threats like the pugs did. Even right leaning news casters are commenting on how spineless the dems are because it is so painfully and embarrassingly obvious. Me thinks they really can't be that stupid and something more sinister is going on.

Impeachment proceedings can be started regardless of whether they finish on time. The dems AREN'T WILLING to hold * accountable. That is the only factor there is.

30. CHILL, PEOPLE. The problem is not Pelosi.
The problem is all the gutless wonders who are in her caucus. If she tried to bring up the vote that Edwards says they should do (and I agree with him 100%), 1/3 of the gutless wonders would desert here and she wouldn't be able to have a simple majority for passage. At that point, she would be completely humiliated and powerless.

She is doing the best she can with the invertebrates she has to contend with.

I do wish she would have stated the obvious over and over again. The correct answer is, "Bush and the Republican Senators have put this into a deadlock they know cannot be broken with the current numbers. My fellow Americans, the only way we can end this war for certain is for you to elect a Democratic President next year and to replace at least 10 Republican Senators with Democrats. Unless you do those two things, this war will go on another 8 years."

I don't see what she or any other Democrat stands to lose from some bold action and risk taking. If their gambits fail they can honestly say "we tried" and they will be believable. Unless they are complicit and fear success more than failure.

36. The problem is the NATURE of the failure
If she brought these bills up, they would die FOR LACK OF DEMOCRATIC SUPPORT, not because of the Republicans. That is why she cannot bring it up.

Pelosi is not the problem. If you want to point fingers, please point them where they are deserved.

It doesn't bother me if the bills die at Democratic hands, because eventually that begins to look awkward for the Democrats who are acting like Republicans.

If she is not willing to vie with all the bushdog assholes in congress then she most certainly is part of the problem. You can't change any positions without applying pressure.

Failure to bring needed proposals to the floor is Forfeiture on said proposals.

So blame the spineless rank and file all you want, goodness knows they deserve it. But realize that a craven leader can't inspire courage or command respect in her straying troops.

38. I can certainly sympathize with a desire for house cleaning.
It is tempting to say, "Let's expose all these DINOs and near-DINOs and put the spotlight on them. If they won't get with the program, then let's run progressives against them in the Primaries next year."

The conventional beltway wisdom, to which Pelosi subscribes, is that the Republicans are in the process of shooting themselves in the foot by prolonging the war, by continuing to have hypocrites and perverts in the news and so on. Pelosi's strategy is tantamount to the old Lincoln quote, "It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to open one's mouth and remove all doubt." The beltway Dems are calculating that they can basically do nothing for the next 15 months and the game will come to them.

I am not nearly so sanguine about our chances in 2008. I know what bastards the neocons are. They are fascists. Domestic terrorists. It will be extraordinarily difficult to remove them from power. But that job doesn't get any easier if Pelosi brings up an aggressive bill and loses 75 Democrats in the process. Then we are seen as inept -- erasing all doubt, using Lincoln's quote. At least at present, there is a plausible argument that this is all the Republicans' fault.

Again, the problem is not Pelosi. It is the 75 Representatives using our brand name but not standing with us. I don't know what she can be expected to do about that. It is the result of 20 years of DLC-level thinking with Bill Clinton and friends. That is how they think. They think they can "triangulate" issues. It has never worked and never will, but it has brought us this batch of invertebrates. And it apparently is bringing us our next Presidential candidate.

39. I'd say we see things more or less the same way.
I see where you are comming from with all of these points. My cheif worry is that not only are the key issues of the day going nowhere, but its also the potential movement of public opinion regarding congress.

In '06 the Dems enjoyed an energized base, a demoralized opponent, and a clear distinction on Iraq. In '08 I know they are counting on the same thing, but meanwhile everyone on the left is getting frustrated and demoralized, and thier failure to change anything on Iraq drags them toward culpability. The water is also getting muddier being that lots of repukes up for reelection are smelling the blood and running in the direction of withdrawl.

This is why I wish Pelosi was taking a more aggressive approach. I think she stands to loose less by continiuing to show that there is a fighting wing to the Democratic party however beaten by the rest of the party it might be. Additionally I think that there is a chance she could rally the triangulators in the right direction if she put them in the position of having to repeatedly cast unpopular votes. I am not that worried about the democrats looking inept, because I think a growing portion of the population already sees them as inept or spineless.

And yes, you are right that this would all be much more auspicious if there weren't a lot of jellifish masquerading as donkeys in congress. I'll concede that as the core issue here. My big shtick is that I would prefer that Pelosi dealt with them differently than she has been. I realize she can't change them, but you can deal with cowards by persuading them that there isn't a safe course for them. This is why armies used to shoot deserters - to persuade the cowards in thier midst that running away doesn't equate to safety.
