Balkans expert Marko Gasic predicts Libya will become a new Iraq. He says that now that the cease-fire is needed for peace, that should be the aim of the mission. The mission has now become compromised, he says, and should be stopped as soon as possible.

1. Be interesting to know what weapons he is referring to
Since they tend to be used by A-10, Cobras, and tanks...none of which are currently seeing action in Libya.

4. The primary use of depleted uranium in munitions is in armor piercing 30 mm rounds..
Otherwise, it is use in armor on M1A1 and similar vehicles.

It doesn't seem to be used in cruise missiles. It is more of an anti-armor and close support weapon. If we get around to killing tanks and armor it will be used.

5. The use of depleted uranium.....
...is criminal. And its users should be punished as such.

7. Arguable point and not applicable here since weapons being used in Libya
do not contain any DU.

8. In my opinion.
Whenever, and wherever it's used -- its wrong.

10. Biologically, killing is never "viable" but rather the exact opposite.
Edited on Thu Mar-24-11 01:59 PM by DeSwiss
The only thing that is viable is peace. but it would seem that humanity hasn't evolved enough for that yet.

Peace.

6. Years ago when I was going to High School I had a part time job machining
out 20mm projectiles from U 238 blanks, (extruded rough ingots). They were designed for use against armor as in tanks, ships, or anything that is thick metal and what's inside you would want to destroy.
The way they worked was odd, the mass was so dense and heavy that the kinetic energy of itself as it hit an object it would instantly start compressing a upon itself. The friction build up would melt the penetrator which in turn would melt a hole through, lets say a tank turret, when the penetrator exits the inside wall, Poof it blows up.
Picture a magnesium arc or a carbon arc looks like,, fireworks on an epic scale. That's what it looks like when air comes in contact with the molten mass as it brakes through.
That's my layman's view

Here's a link of a basic description of a penetrator.
