Check out Chris Matthews interviewing former Congressman David Bonior about the lobbyist issue. David Bonior is also John Edwards' campaign manager, and Edwards has come out strongly against taking money from lobbyists. (In fact Edwards has never taken money from Washington lobbyists in his entire political career.)

6. Instead of making laws that protect the consumers...
...most candidates are in favor of making laws that will force Americans into taking and paying for what's already un-affordable and screwed up. Or face fines and/or penalties for not complying as with "mandatory" auto insurance. Those who are stupid enough to buy the argument that if mandatory health insurance is put into law then more people will have policies and therefore prices will go down better learn from auto and homeowners insurance.

Kucinich is the only candidate that strongly supports the single payer option that I know of.

11. Sheila Jackson Lee and other Dem reps participate in the RIGGED SYSTEM
People wake up!! John Edwards is screaming the Truth!

John Edwards deserves big kudos for his COURAGE in exposing the rigged system. His concern - it's become so acceptable that "fine upstanding Dem reps" don't consider it bribery or corruption.
Many of our current reps were mentored by the Centrist Clintons who abandoned Dem core values and joined Repubs to feed at the Corporate trough.

This is a must read!!

http://www.alternet.org/stories/62812

The misery sweeping across the American landscape may have begun with Ronald Reagan, but it was accelerated and codified by Bill Clinton. He sold out the poor and the working class. And Clinton did it deliberately to feed the pathological hunger he and his wife have for political power. It was the Clintons who led the Democratic Party to the corporate watering trough.

I've even lost faith with NPR and public television. They pretend to dissect the scandals and "news" but then don't ask the right questions.

8. Matthews has had it in for the
Clintons' for a long time. He knocks them every chance he gets but can't hide it. Matthews is part of the media and he will try to get by with anything he can. He tries to get his "guests" to play along with him. Of course the Republican guests hang right in there with him. I don't know who I will back in this race, but I am offended when someone like Matthews tries to stick it to them. All our candidates have more class in their little fingers than Matthews will ever have. I simply can't buy into the trash that comes out of his mouth--his bi-polar problem really shows.

14. "pay to play"
That's exactly right. And as Congressman Bonior stated, people who don't admit what a corrosive process this is, are out of touch with the American people.

BTW, that YearlyKos clip they used seems to be TPM footage. I wonder if the MSM is now pirating footage from bloggers. Just sayin. ;)

16. Is this accurate -- that candidates will actually take money to set up meetings?
Is that just "how it's done"? This is in addition to campaign contributions?

Is there any way to determine who has taken what from whom?

21. You mostly get it, but here's a clarification
This is not in addition to campaign contributions. What this is referring to is a $1000 a plate luncheon that the Clinton campaign gave for lobbyists. Lobbyists who donated $1000 to the Clinton campaign were matched with Congressional leaders who sit on the committees those lobbyists seek to influence and given lunch with them. Yes, this happens. It doesn't happen in the Edwards campaign, because Edwards doesn't take money from lobbyists, but it happens in the Clinton campaign and probably is a pretty widespread practice in Washington.

26. Sure it is.
http://blogs.abcnews.com/theblotter/2007/09/on-heels-of-911.html

One week later, the junior New York senator is scheduled to speak at a homeland security-themed, $1,000-a-plate fundraiser for her campaign in the downtown Washington, D.C. offices of a powerful legal firm.

"Being a week after 9/11, it appears unseemly and politically opportunistic," said Steve Ellis, a former Coast Guard officer who is now vice president of Taxpayers for Common Sense, a Washington, D.C. good government group.

Clinton's fundraising audience is expected to include many of the government contractors and lobbyists whose fortunes have soared in the years since the attacks, which triggered a massive government reorganization and billions in new government spending.

But that's not the only objectionable feature of the event, critics say.

For the price of a ticket -- from a $1,000 personal donation to a $25,000 bundle –- attendees will get a special treat after the luncheon: an opportunity to participate in small, hour-long "breakout sessions" hosted by key Democratic lawmakers, many of whom chair important subcommittees on the Homeland Security committee.

29. Ive seen a couple of shows where Clintons actions have been...
Edited on Sat Sep-22-07 02:41 PM by superkia
questioned like this and they say that no one from her camp will show up to defend her? What are they afraid of...the truth! Its a scary thought that most of her supporters either don't see this stuff or choose not to because shes their favorite and they don't care enough to look for a better choice and help our children have a better future? I don't understand that kind of thinking, has America lost its conscience?

I wanted to add this also. Why is that in the posts of the polls with her leading, you will see a ton of Clinton supporters in there making posts of how shes won and is so great but when the title shows something negative but true about her, they do like the shows on tv and stay away? Where are her supporters defending her actions here? I want to know why things like this are good for getting the country out of the corporations hands and back to the people? Clinton supporters please help me understand these practices?

34. cheers to Matthews for being the only journalist to tell the truth about Hillary
He's been sucking up to her since Jan. And so has the rest of the media. and they have given her a totally free pass on everything.
For once someone is holding her arrogant feet to the fire and calling it like it is.
She is pimping and she is corrupt.
