This is somewhat of a long and complicated story. Republicans in the Town of Hempstead on Long Island are a corrupt patronage laden mob. They are exactly what teabaggers claim to be against. They are overpaid and completely political. Anyway, there is a brewing scandal over a woman named Pat Horan. Here's a summary:

The acting director of the Hempstead Town Animal Shelter registered to vote in Nassau County two years ago even though state records continued to list her as residing in Suffolk County.

Documents show that Patricia Horan registered from the Wantagh home of Ella Stevens, a GOP appointee to the Nassau Board of Elections. Five months after registering to vote in Nassau, Horan was elected to a county GOP committee seat. Committee seats require Nassau residency. Stevens has served as president of the Wantagh Republican Club, where Horan has been a member.

State law mandates that voters register at a location where they have "legitimate, significant and continuing attachments" and do so without "any aura of sham." It is a felony to knowingly file a false registration, or to allow or assist such a filing.

This woman is well paid for her participation in the republican party.

Records show that Horan - who is among nine shelter employees paid more than $100,000 in 2010, seven of whom won GOP committee seats the previous year - completed paperwork in April 2009 stating that she had moved her residence from Amityville, in Suffolk, to Wantagh, in Nassau.
<snip>

Horan, 52, made 13 political donations between April 2007 and October 2010, to the Nassau GOP, the Hempstead Republican Committee and Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray, according to documents. All list her home as being in Amityville.

And here is where the alleged fraud took place:

Yet Horan, who was paid $111,819 last year and has the use of a town-owned 2011 Ford Escape, has cast ballots as a Nassau voter, most recently in November. Records show that she also voted from the Wantagh address in September last year and in November 2009.
<snip>

This person is neck deep in scandal. Somehow a video came out with a woman cheering on the murder of a kitten at the animal shelter. The video claims this is Pat Horan. She's probably just joking, but the shelter doesn't have a very good track record (http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/local/Criminal-Probe-Abuse-Allegations-Swirl-Around-Animal-Shelter-106999399.html">Criminal Probe, Abuse Allegations Swirl Around Animal Shelter), and as you see in the video, that's no way to handle a kitten.

The video asks you to take action. I think the best thing we can do is find out what happened to that kitten and what's going on at that shelter in general.

Here is a picture from Newsday that shows Pat Horan without the mullet. Not sure if it's the same person, but there is a resemblance.

5. Missouri Legislature Poised To Repeal Puppy Mill Cruelty Prevention Referendum
__________
For years, Missouri earned the dubious distinction as the nation’s “puppy mill capital” because its lax humane regulations and enforcement allowed dog breeders to raise puppies at low costs in terrible, overcrowded conditions. Last fall, Missouri voters approved a referendum to finally solve this problem — the Puppy Mill Cruelty Prevention Act — which mandates regular veterinarian inspections of breeding facilities and ensures a basic level of treatment for dogs, such keeping temperatures between 45 and 85 degrees. Tea party groups stridently opposed the referendum, arguing it was “just another example of big government meddling in people’s lives.”

No one mishandled that kitten. It's probably feral and the way it was handled was humane.
The animal workers are allowed to protect themselves for cripes sake. And now that everyone
has gone off the deep end over the kitten I wonder if any of what was posted is true. If
you want to be taken seriously than act serious and not like "OMFG" over everything. There's
plenty to be really upset over without making crap up. I feel embarrassed now. GAH!!!

bot not for the reason you stated. The video and newsday articles speak for themselves. Have you ever handled kittens? That's no way to handle one, especially the kitten in the video which is not vicious. Part of the problem is their mishandling this animal. Part of the problem is their track record. And part of their problem is this woman's callousness towards life.

10. You have NO idea what you are talking about
and I'm not going to allow you to use me to get your outrage on.
I worked for the Humane Society and YES I have handled kittens
before, hundreds of times. The catch pole that is being used is
being used in the proper manner, no harm came to that cat. The
poles are designed to protect both the catcher and the catchee.
Try handling a feral kitten ya know-it-all!

11. I think you've come to conclusions without knowing the questions.
You're outraged about the "outrage" even though I posted "The video asks you to take action. I think the best thing we can do is find out what happened to that kitten and what's going on at that shelter in general."

Is that a rousing call to action or a measured call to answers?

I've adopted a feral cat and I live with her. I know more about feral cats than I'd like. I have also adopted other cats and my wife has fostered several that lived in my house.

I know a kitten like that should be treated with love and care first. The pole shouldn't have been the first resort.

Did you bother to read the links? This facitily has a bad track record and this video is in line with that.

12. I rewatched the video several times
and there is no mistreatment of that cat. An animal shelter would not have allowed you
to foster a feral cat that wasn't able to be around humans and most feral cats are too
wild and if not put down then fostered by people who can handle truly feral cats.

If all there is to go on is the handling of that cat then I don't see what the issue is.
You may not like that but that's how it is in the real world. Lots of Humane animal shelters
get lots of complaints because most people don't really know anything about how to handle
feral or wild critters. It's not always pretty but hopefully it is mostly safe. I'm talking
about the video alone and trying to impart a little reality but go ahead with your uninformed
outrage party.

14. Unreal...
You're an ass. I try to inject a little "Informed" reality
and you'd rather chase your own tail. LOL Well go ahead then.

I have a feeling that when all is said and done this will turn out
to be nothing. I don't mind outrage when it's applied to real
stuff to be outraged over, like Wisconsin for instance. But just
making crap up, eh, it makes us look like Rethugs but go ahead and
leave critical thinking at the door the way that they do.
