Talk about dedication, the staff appear to care more about the stock than their own safety.

1. They must have edges on every shelf for so little to fall off. That was amazing.

2. Why do the workers have maskes on their face. They were there before the quake. Great that their
buildings are so strong that not much stuff broke.

4. People in Japan wear masks a lot --
I think it has to do with protecting oneself from germs or exposing others if you are sick.

5. They wear the masks to keep the warm air near their mouths
when they have a cold. They can also be used for protection for things like when the H1N1 virus outbreak happened. They are quite commonplace, but can be disconcerting for foreigners who don't know their purpose.

3. And that wasn't the epicenter --

People, near the center were unable to walk and were getting flung around like dolls. :scary:

6. I think when you have expectations you sometimes make decisions based on that.
No one has gone through an 8.9 earthquake before and I doubt they had that in mind. Besides, avoiding cleaning up that wine might be worth standing in front of that shelf.

7. That was my thought, my husband claimed a loyal employee...my thinking
hey, if I can't stop it now, I have to clean it up later!

8. I lived near the epicenter of the Northridge Quake in 1994.
It wasn't as strong as the quake in Japan, but much more violent. This looked like a "rolling" quake, where the Northridge quake seemed to move up and down. It tossed our tv like a toy, and moved our refrigerator about three feet.

9. Used to tremors for one thing.
But little damage -- well-designed building, or fairly far from the epicenter.
