This used to be an American principle. OK, it wasn't always followed, in spirit, but we always tried to justify our intrusions.

the war against the VC and NVA. But he didn't have the courage to win it.

After all, it was his supporters who were marching in the streets against him.

8. Killing 3 million Vietnamese wasn't enough -- we needed more "courage?"
Is the Iraq war just as winnable as Vietnam, in your opinion?

And welcome to DU!

11. Since this war is a war for oil for Israel, Britain and the US, its a tough call.
"Is the Iraq war just as winnable as Vietnam, in your opinion?"

And welcome to DU!"

In Iraq, the religious factor and tighter tribalism would normally make a US victory even more unlikely than in Vietnam. But considering what's really at stake for the "Axis of Oil", this war could get much uglier.

Thank you!

13. Vietnam was already a war prior to him taking offense.
Any action within that war was an extention of it. However, not a war he created.

4. He also may not have been aware of dozens of wars the US had initiated in its history.
The US had a very violent and aggressive past, and it was a tradition Kennedy continued.

6. His best known quote.
"Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country"

Things changed quickly after that.
