You are forced to pay the income taxes of some of the richest investors in America through a federal regulation never before reported on in the mainstream news media; full details at tax.com

Master Limited Partnerships: Paying Other People's Taxes
David Cay Johnston | Jun. 21, 2010

Wouldn't it be fantastic if someone else paid your income taxes for you? Imagine all that extra money in your bank account. You could pay off your debts, save, and even splurge.

Of course, for the person who paid your income taxes it would be awful. They would have to pay their own income taxes and then, out of what was left, pay yours.

Congress would never enact such a law, right?

2. I bought his book "Free Lunch"
and I believe it may be the only book I did not finish on purpose.
I was so mad, so goddamned mad - that I could only get about 1/3 through.
I have picked it up again a couple times and my blood pressure soars.

'Re-reading "Perfectly Legal" by David Cay Johnston'

From the inside cover

*Roberto Goizueta, CEO of Coca-Cola, built a billion-dollar fortune without paying a dime in taxes on it.

*Tom and Cindy Toth, a corporate trainer and stay-at-home mom, live on $90,000 a year. But the alternative minimum tax will take back much of the tax cuts Congress voted them in 2001 and 2003. By 2010, 35.6 million households will pay this “stealth tax.”

*Ingersoll-Rand pays $26,000 a year to maintain a Bermuda post office box as its legal headquarters. That little trick lets them escape $40 million in corporate taxes each year.

*The IRS unjustly came after Maritza Reyes, a cleaning woman in East Los Angeles who earns $7,000 per year, but ignored the fact that billionaire art dealer Alec Wildenstein and his wife Jocelyn never filed a tax return in three decades

The rapidly widening gulf between the super-rich and everyone else is an American tragedy. Pundits have raged about it, but until now, no one has explained exactly how it happened, why it’s not a normal part of capitalism, or how much damage it’s really causing—not just to the poor, but to 99 percent of all Americans.

'Investigative Journalist David Cay Johnston Slams Obama-GOP Tax Deal on Democracy Now!'

Democracy Now! "The Worse Off You Are, Your Taxes Increase": Journalist David Cay Johnston Slams Obama-GOP Tax Deal

The U.S. Senate is on the verge of approving President Obama's controversial tax deal with Republicans. Under the deal, Obama agreed to extend the Bush-era tax cut for the wealthiest Americans and reduce the estate tax in return for a 13-month extension of jobless benefits and a handful of tax credits for low- and moderate-income Americans. Democracy Now! speaks to Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative journalist David Cay Johnston, author of the book, "Free Lunch: How the Wealthiest Americans Enrich Themselves at Government Expense (and Stick You with the Bill)."

'Great article by David Cay Johnston, and timely considering Walkers morning talking point'

When it comes to improving public understanding of tax policy, nothing has been more troubling than the deeply flawed coverage of the Wisconsin state employees' fight over collective bargaining.

Economic nonsense is being reported as fact in most of the news reports on the Wisconsin dispute, the product of a breakdown of skepticism among journalists multiplied by their lack of understanding of basic economic principles.

Gov. Scott Walker says he wants state workers covered by collective bargaining agreements to "contribute more" to their pension and health insurance plans.

Accepting Gov. Walker' s assertions as fact, and failing to check, created the impression that somehow the workers are getting something extra, a gift from taxpayers. They are not.
