1. WOW!!!!!!!
All I can say is this is the most important discussion I have seen in a very long time.

This is so loaded with insight. Everybody owes it to themselves to study this, really understand it, and share it with anybody who might be wondering how our world got to its present state.

2. 8 recommendations and no other comments?
I'm surprised there aren't some comments. I must say this piece left me almost speechless. She clearly lays out just how the Right has cowed the other 97% to turn the world over to them almost without a fight. That is what takes my breath away. She is so right. I think we all knew this was happening, but still it came down on me like a load of bricks.

4. I guess it is the highest compliment possible
Really remarkable. She has gone straight to heart of the beast. Most of the stuff we argue about here is absolutely infinitesimal compared to what she has to say.

5. More Discussion of Naomi Klein's Book Here:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=103&topic_id=307804#top

The Guardian is running its own series on Klein's book. It's entirely possible that the book will be one of the forces that turn the world away from these right-wing doctrines that has wrecked our economy and wrecked lives.

9. Brilliant Insights....
She also gave me something else to think about....

Milton Freidman, University of Chicago.

and also......

Leo Strauss, University of Chicago.

Freidman, the "father" of Neocon Economic Policy
Strauss, the "father" of Neocon Political Policy.

Didn't Wolfowitz and Hadley study at Univ of Chicago too?

Klein is stunning in her insight and grippingly articulate. A brilliant and beautiful young woman. Ms. Klein has served to remove the scales from our eyes and allow us to see what was right in front of us, all along.

of course, 9/11 was intended to put Americans into "shock and awe."

Since time began, we've had the "few" trying to scam the rest of us; our "free press" is supposed to be there to prevent this from happening.

The press is to be the counter to lies and "shock and awe" scams -- but in its pretense that there isn't treason "within" as well as treason "without" it creates a naivete among the public and guarantees safety zones for corruption in government.

The American public has to wake up to the reality of how decades of assassinations, violence and intimidation and threats and theft of elections are and have been used in moving the nation to the right.

Consider just two taboo subjects in our MSM . . . .
the harm that unregulated capitalism has done all over the world and currently in America.
You are more likely to hear myths of capitalism and democracy being synomous. They are not.

and

the role that the Federal Reserve serves in setting our nation's economic policies.
that's a political function which rightly belongs to our elected officials.

The few private families who control and profit from our nation's natural resources also created a black out on the facts of Global Warming over decades in what is suicidal thinking for humanity.

14. Shock and awe capitalism is exactly what the neocons push, but it is all
...slanted toward their own inner circle gain. Does that have any merit what-so-ever? It still sounds like a bunch of Nazis to me :wtf:

15. Cannibal capitalism
Edited on Thu Sep-20-07 08:09 PM by PATRICK
Cannibalism, the taboo. The "last resort" presumably after a long food crisis(where most succumb to hunger) is in the thinking and rationalization that accompanies desperation turned into a philosophical "good" or "realist" math. Conscience comes last at last for some. Then, among populations there is the ritual eating of flesh for the sign of power and soul domination. Where it becomes institutionalized the fatal consequence comes out. Not only total moral degradation of the entire society but "mad human" disease.

Now think of greed not desperate survival instincts and hunger. The first recourse of those who cannot easily or in quantity sufficient to outrageous desire and ego acquire power wealth is to cannibalize their neighbor's goods, lives, society. When it acquires a rationalization, a culture, a sanctimonious ritual of dominance and sacrifice(by others) then it enters the realm of complete degradation and unsustainable disease. Such is vice, moral taboos and visceral conscience and abolition of conscience in the most extreme cases.

Our cannibals wear good suits of clothes. The get celebrity, respect and dominance and are no better in themselves or for society than mafia dons. They just eat more people and live by being less honest or limited. Bad for themselves, bad for their victims and disastrous for their society. Waiting out their eventual self destruction is not such a hot idea.

16. Discouraged? Progressives have been winning since humans moved out of caves.
If not, we'd still be there.

What is a conservative? Someone who's willing to try anything as long as it's been done before.

18. This video should be re-posted and re-posted.
Its message is fundamental to understanding what is going on. I am an Edwards supporter. He is the person with the ideas, and ideas are what we are going to need in times of disaster. He responds to the challenge that Naomi Klein presents.

Kucinich also has good ideas. The rest of the candidates are prosaic, follow the leader types. They either are or could easily become the tools of the right-wing in times of crisis. Remember how Greenspan utterly dominated Bill Clinton's economic thinking. We don't need four more years of that. We need new ideas and progressive solutions.
