2007: "If American workers are being denied their right to organize when I'm in the White House, I will put on a comfortable pair of shoes and I will walk on that picket line with you as president of the United States."

2011: "I wasn’t with him at the time, but again, I think that the President has different means of speaking out on issues and being heard, and clearly he did -- he made his viewpoints known on the situation in Wisconsin, the need for people to come together. He takes very seriously the fiscal situation that the states find themselves in -- some of the states -- and understands it because he understands it at the federal level. But he encourages the parties involved to come together and sacrifice together and reach a solution that serves the interests of all the people of the states, just like he’s trying to do for the broader nation." (press sec Jay Carney)

4. Couple of observations, aside from the topic at hand:
1) I would like Cenk a lot more if he weren't so shrill.
2) What happened to his slick set and high quality videos? It looks like he recorded this on a Motorola Razr.

I never cease to be amazed how quick Cenk is to go for Obama's throat on every progressive topic, and he's been shown to be full of shit of many of them: DOMA and DADT to name a couple. Has he ever acknowledged that his attention whore screeches were wrong? He certainly hasn't learned patience or waiting for the reality of national US politics to unfold.

Now, feel free to crap yourselves because I dared to impugn St. Cenk.

5. Cenk always says he hopes he's wrong
That's called holding Obama's feet to the fire. Anything else outside of your 2-minute hate?

18. Hate? I don't hate Cenk. He's not worthy.
He's a blip on the radar that only arises when somebody posts his latest mindless screed.

6. What exactly is the reality
of US politics? Is it that the President finally supports a couple of civil rights issues that are unopposed by both Wall Street and most Americans? All Cenk has been saying for the better part of two years is stop being a chump. Obama sold himself as something he's not. He did it get progressive votes. Go ahead and support him, I probably will because the alternative will be worse, but I won't defend him and neither should you. It's bad enough to get punked without being pitiful too.

7. Deja vue. If you are going to repeat a post, please admit it.
It's a waste of bandwidth to just repost the same snide remark over and over.

Cenk is absolutely right on this. Obama has no clue as to what side he is on.

He just sways with the winds of D.C.

The issues in Madison are national. The future of the Democratic Party and Obama and you and me is being decided in Madison. And Obama is nowhere to be found. He is going to discover in 2012 that some of the voters he thinks he can count on are also nowhere to be found. They will be out grubbing for their next meal. The last thing on their minds will be voting for Obama.

Something that has not been talked about on DU is the fact that while we who are staunch Democrats voted in November 2010, the many, many Democrats who are jobless, homeless and struggling to find the next meal probably didn't even think about the election.

Obama's insensitivity to the plight of ordinary Americans will cost him dearly at the polls in 2012.

And since Obama managed to maneuver his way to the top of the Democratic ticket in 2008, and since we will have to challenge his candidacy if we want to get someone better, his insensitivity, his uncaring attitude will probably hurt us Democrats for a long, long time.

Here is Obama's spokesman responding to the situation in Wisconsin, and what do we hear? A statement about how vital it is to create more jobs so that states have more revenue and can pay living wages? A statement about how our political process is being manipulated by a few wealthy oligarchs? Just a word of sympathy for the people out there in the cold in Wisconsin protecting their rights and the futures of their state and families?

No. Just some rather condescending words about people working together. It is the governor of Wisconsin who has refused to compromise. The least Obama and his political hacks could do is to point that crucial fact out to the public and the press in particular.

This wasn't even good politicking. Obama's conduct here makes no political sense. An intelligent politician would be riding the wave of public sentiment which is moving toward the strikers with every second that Walker refuses to give way.

Obama is making a big, big mistake on this.

8. What you've said....
100%. I like Cenk's outrage. It's what I feel, only HE has the national stage to sound it from. :grr: After seeing that "Comfortable Shoes" remark, I have NO alternative than to call Obama a LIAR. What he's shown me in two years is that a leopard CAN change it's spots.

Seriously, you're comparing Cenk with Jeebus? I don't consider JC to be God as some do, but still...

9. Totally agree with you
and to dismiss this as some ordinary strike is extremely naive or irrational...This is a big 'Katrina' type moment analogous to the BP oil spill - remember that?

Although I do believe in the necessity of creating jobs - that is not what the issue here is - the issue here is about supporting your base and acting like you care for them as human beings and fellow Americans rather than being part of some demographic faction that you need to exploit to win an election.

15. I posted this in response to another comment.
It just occurred to me tonight.

Cutting the pay of the government workers in Wisconsin is the equivalent of raising taxes just on a particular group of citizens. It is like increasing taxes on the public employees. What is the difference between cutting the pay of government workers and increasing taxes on government workers? Absolutely none.

Increasing the tax rate (by decreasing the salaries of) just one group of taxpayers is extremely discriminatory, especially when that decrease could amount to a 5% increase in the tax rate (or decrease in pay) per year.

Talk about redistributing wealth. As I understand it, Walker decreased taxes thereby increasing the income of wealthier people and businesses and has increased taxes by decreasing the income of the middle class government employees. This is quite a redistribution of income. Sheer manipulation. It's horrible. It's sick.

What's in a word? Pay cuts - taxation - it only matters as to where you place those terms.

16. This was the first time I saw this clip. If you think I posted this elsewhere...
... give us a link.

And we've danced this dance before: "Obama's insensitivity to ...(fill in the blank) ... will cost him in 2012." Gays in the military, DOMA, our involvement in Iraq, health care, and on and on and on. Those who have spouted this crap have been wrong, wrong, wrong. Each time Obama ticks off one milestone, critics like you simply move on to the next whine du jour.

Today, it's unions. Tomorrow ... who can tell, but there will be another issue.

In the mean time, the "progressive my ass" Obama is driving the conservatives insane as he accomplishes his goals. The only people who don't recognize what he's done are the blind ultra left. Like Cenk. And you.
