10. Which parts pertain to this specifically? I would think that such
info would automatically be kept "secret" -- do we need the Patriot Act to ensure that?

6. Careful here... I wouldn't think the guy interviewed is an expert on what exactly
constitutes a WMD or even a "dirty" bomb. I would guess that he doesn't completely understand the reporter's question (and the reporter doesn't completely understand his own question either). My guess is that they have found some "contraband" nuclear material. We don't have any real data on what that means and in this case the specifics are critical.

11. Sure
... maybe you misunderstood what I am trying to say. I mean that contraband radioactive materials that may be used to make a "dirty" bomb should not be a surprise to folks if they are paying attention. This stuff is indeed happening and I'm not at all surprised that customs would have had a few instances of making confiscations. What I still say is that we don't learn much from this official's statements. He really isn't directly answering the question that the report says that he is answering.

My honest guess is yeah, they've found attempting smuggling of nuclear material. Woopi (:sarcasm:), I'm just saying it isn't really news. Just more of a propaganda slip.

12. I don't know

There are a lot of uses for nuclear material besides making bombs. medical comes to mind. Most Americans are so science illiterate they couldn't tell tell the difference between Hydrogen and Helium, much less nuclear part for benign purposes and dirty bomb parts.

I think for now, I'll say someone saw a Geiger counter go off and rushed to the news people.

I might change my mind as further info comes along.

9. I thought he just seemed uncomfortable, like nervous about saying
"too much" even though (again, in my opinion) he wanted to. :7

14. Another interpretation of that: he didn't know, and...
...didn't want to look like they weren't doing their job right (i.e., not missing contraband).

SAN DIEGO -- 10News was granted access to San Diego's seaport for a firsthand look at how Customs and Border Protection officers safeguard against weapons of mass effect.

"Given the open waterways and the access to the Navy fleet here, I'd say, absolutely, San Diego is a target," said Al Hallor, who is the assistant port director and an officer with Customs and Border Protection.

10News investigative reporter Mitch Blacher asked, "Do you ever find things that are dangerous like a chemical agent or a weaponized device?"

"At the airport, seaport, at our port of entry we have not this past fiscal year, but our partner agencies have found those things," said Hallor.
