All those times you wondered how could Hitler come to power and do the things he did without the people rising up against him and wondered how could this happen. Well, we are witnessing the same exact usurping of power and dumbing down the masses here in America with the Republican Party. Not that they are equal to Hitler or that they are going to kill 6 million innocents, but the theories to gain power are the same.

Give the Republicans the kind of power Hitler had and maybe they will start herding people into death camps; muslims, "socialists", homosexuals... Harder to pull off today than in 1942, what with the internet and all, but if one of these neocons were to gain absolute power, I wouldn't say impossible.

(BTW- 6 million is only the number of Jews. The actual number of human beings killed in the Holocaust is estimated at 10-12 million.)

What these folks seem to forget, or perhaps were never aware of, is the fact that there were a large number of people in this country who sympathized with Hitler, some of them very prominent (Ambassador Joseph Kennedy among them). A lot of people are drawn to authoritarianism, sadly enough.
