"Its not like I don't see the massive problems America has (or the problems that any country has for that matter), but I don't see how that justifies the general hatred of an entire nation."

What is the view of America on Youtube from people around the world? What makes Americans so desirous of perfection and hating their own nation ?

Some thoughts from someone who is not American, but a good student of our history.

Our we all able to deal with the problems of our nation? Or are we on the internet only to complain?

Some provocative thoughts, maybe we should listen and learn.

Quote: "You can be patriotic, without being a nationalist asshole"

By the way, this college student in the UK seems to be well studied in American history, and the current economic climate around the world, pretty damn gay friendly, would probably be a Democrat in the USA, were he an American, has about 200 videos on provocative subjects, including how he hates American food, in particular peanut butter...fun to watch.

Bottom line from all this: do we take our nation in the context of the world of today? Do we think about our nation, and praise it, or condemn it and for what? He'd be happy to hear back from some DU folks.

3. Well, on a single dimension, that's ONE GOOD reason, any others? and...
I bet the UK did stuff like this over the last 500-1000 years, too!

Could THAT be a part of their blindness as to the USA's anti-Americanism? I wonder.

2. I think it's about control.
When I was growing up, I had it better than the vast majority of other kids. We lived in a big house and I had all the clothes I wanted to wear, all the food I could eat, and all the entertainment I wanted. I was given a car as soon as I got my driver's license and I was given a brand new car my senior year in high school. Today my standard of living is much lower than it was back then, but I am happier. The difference is the amount of control I have over my life. In America, we historically have more control over individual lives and our collective fate than people of most other countries. However, we're seeing that control erode steadily and the resulting fear we feel makes us resent those who have power over us. As long as our sense of control continues to erode and our futures become less certain, negative emotions and dissatisfaction will continue.
