I watched this yesterday. Excellent piece.

As I said in an earlier thread, as a young man growing up in the 1960s I would never have believed I would see such blatant propaganda on my television. Of course back then we had anti-communist and anti Soviet Union propaganda but I would never have imagined a TV station entirely dedicated to an outright 24/7 misinformation effort to demonize the opposition party. This is fundamentally un-American.

Four thousand miles long and 25 feet tall. Intended to be too high to climb over, too thick to break through, and too long to go around. Yet in its first century of the wall’s existence, China was successfully breached three times by invaders who didn’t have to break through, climb over, or go around. They simply were waved through the gates by obliging watchmen. The Chinese knew their wall very well. It was the gatekeepers they didn’t know.

The essay on the whole was about the financial collapse, but I have always associated the term gate keepers with the flow of information due to a class I once took in mass communications. A free press is central to the preservation of a democratic society and propaganda as a poor substitute.

passing along acceptable phrasing as per the neocon philosophy. Apparently someone has leaked memo's.

Examples:
The public option was to be referred to as 'government run healthcare.
Discussions of global warming-'climategate'.

Thom finishes with an awesome rant on the importance of an independent media.

Think those are the high points.

6. With all due respects to Thom Hartmann

There is / has been evidence Fox News distorts information/promulgates disinformation......we've known this since the 2000 election was called prematurely for Bush - by a cousin in Fox News

This problem would be neutralized if either blue dog Democrats didn't join the opposition or there was stronger use of the bully pulpit.
