4. Fantastic!
He responds to the questions about whether he should be running considering Elizabeth Edwards' health. He also challenged Iowans to scrutinize the candidates for honesty and sincerity. I believe those are his strengths. Dedication, sincerity and honesty. In addition, he is well organized and has seriously considered why he is running. In my view, he is not running because he is an egotist, but because he wants to change America.

I believe that as an attorney he has seen how the powerful and wealthy conduct themselves at the negotiating table over and over. He won battle after battle for one plaintiff, for one victim of the rich and powerful -- but only one at a time. As president he can win the battle for the many victims of the rich and powerful -- and that includes many of us who might be viewed as "middle class" but who are in fact very vulnerable to the slightest economic downturn, illness or lay-off.

5. He is a true democrat, folks. Was that Hillary sitting there?
It so, she sure must have felt like a rotten egg.

6. I watched all of them.
Edwards had the best speech to me, he really hit on some issues and even minimum wage to $9.50 per hour with set wage increases.

Edwards works for me!

7. Numero Uno At Steak Fry! Best Speech There, But MORE Importantly
his passion about America was very evident and his earnest "caring" really came through. I do think ALL the candidates expressed their views and intentions regarding how they wanted to go forth as leaders for our country and the American people.

But for me, John Edwards keeps showing ME how much he's matured since 2004, and IS NOT afraid to speak out even when he knows that others are going to take certain aspects of his thoughts and pick them apart intent only to bash and denigrate him! There are several here who will NEVER like ANYTHING he says and seem to have a particular vengeance against him.

FWIW, I think there are issues and talking points that each candidate may not make everyone happy, but that only goes to re-enforce that old saying that "you can fool some of the people all of time, you can fool all of the people some of the time, but you CAN'T fool ALL of the people ALL of the time"! This is something I think the current "corrupt administration" never even considers at any time!

There are issues in each person's past that may not be desirable to many, but Democrats USED to be known as the BIG TENT Party, and it's something I think many have ignored only to present "negativity" simply because they dislike someone. Having said all that, I believe "freedom of speech" is very important even if I may not like what I hear. I simply feel we should be mindful of the fact that the Repukes LOVE seeing us fight among each other and are only too happy to glom on to these things and shout out to America as divisions to use against us!

8. Did Edwards (or anyone else for that matter) talk about Kucinich deserving a seat there?

It seems a shame that some folks that have even less of a chance than Kucinich in terms of poll numbers were invited and he wasn't.

Now, I'm inclined to support Edwards now (unless Al Gore gets in soon), but I also like Kucinich as well a lot, and I like his voice being present at all of these group functions to help keep the rest of them honest, even if not to provide a viable option for people to vote for.

Had Edwards said something about Dennis deserving to be there, that might have sewed up my support for him as a man that really supports the principles of democracy. If they all avoided that question, then that continues to frustrate me about how the Dems are approaching true grass roots democracy these days!

9. Cspan reported the reason before the speeches....
Neither Gravel or Kucinich have a staffed field office in Iowa, which was required for the invite.

12. Those rules still sound a bit "convenient" to me, but they are at least better than nothing...

It still rewards those with more money and not necessarily support like Biden, etc.

I'd still like to think that someone like Edwards in a passing comment might have said something like "Too bad a space couldn't have been made for Dennis to speak to Iowans here too. I'm sure that Iowans are very appreciative and used to hearing a lot of different voices before making their choices of who represent them". Like I noted, a gesture like that would really solidify more my feelings of support for him amongst those running now and amplify his message of the Dems needing to move back to being the party of representing grass roots and not big money interests.

14. Edwards would say something like that,
How about someone like Hillary and Obama too?

At this stage in the primaries, do you think our candidates have their own campaigns to worry about ? You may want to express this concern to Sen Harkin, I think he made the rules. It was his party in his state.

15. Edwards knocked one out of the ball park at the HSF!
I'm now firmly in the Edwards camp. He threw the gauntlet down for the other candidates to step up and support single payer health care and to get US troops out of Iraq and the rest of the world helping to maintain peace in the Middle east. Edwards said we can pay for Universal health care by reinstating the tax cuts for the wealthy that the Bush administration cut. He said we need a living wage. Edwards has really been listening to peoples needs and concerns and is out there batting for working people.

16. saw all of the candidates that spoke at the Harkin
it was eye-opening to say the least.

Edwards was the only candidate with an fire in his belly.

The rest were on autopilot - Richardson makes a definite case for leadership - proves that he might be a good second string.

Obama shows that he is hoping for the VP slot. I think maybe in 2012.
