This is looking more & more like Iran!

I hate to say this but it is a statement of FACT...I have no idea what will come of this in Egypt I doubt much. However, unless Muslims are willing to reform their beliefs then a Democratic Government is out of the question! A true Democracy not only allows free speech & a free press even when it comes to criticizing religion. However, a true democracy is one in which women are equal & can speak their mind anytime they wish, PERIOD! Free Speech & equality for women fly in the face of what many Muslims think is acceptable. Women use to be able to dress as they wish in Egypt & that has changed for the worse so I do not feel good about what is going on there. As many of these protesters are unemployed men who are unhappy but are they willing to live in a society where a woman can speak her mind? I have a strong feeling they would not!

I would love to be DEAD WRONG! And I hope I am but...

3. I think you are wrong. Women are participating in these protests

I've seen women among the protestors in many of the photos. It doesn't seem to be bothering anyone. And on twitter women are helping to coordinate the protests.

I'm sure the fundies will try to keep women down. They do that here but this seems to be something very different from previous protests. And people of all walks of life appear to be involved, mostly young, yes, but there are also many older people, men and women there too.

I hope you are wrong, but from what I've seen so far, I think you may be. As the title of the article says, these protests are 'unprecedented'.

4. I NEVER said women were not taking part...
Edited on Thu Jan-27-11 05:55 PM by SkyDaddy7
What I said is what I said...Will the Muslim men be willing to live in a country were women can speak their mind & free speech is tolerated.

What I said is very true...It just is.

Please I mean no disrespect but DO NOT put words in my mouth. Thank-you.

5. This could be a game-changer
No way we can sit on the sidelines now and claim that Egypt is "stable" and continue our support for its corrupt regime. If we condemned the brutal violence the Iranians used against their protestors, the same should be expected here.
