Democracy NOW! DN! - We speak with legendary singer, actor, humanitarian and activist, Harry Belafonte. "I think Obama plays the game that he plays because he sees no threat from evidencing concerns for the poor," Belafonte says. "He sees no threat from evidencing a deeper concern of the needs of black people, as such. He feels no great threat from evidence of greater policy toward the international community for expressing thoughts that criticize the American position on things and turns that around. Until we do that, I think we will be forever disappointed in what that administration will deliver."

1. Harry Belafonte is a great inspiration.
But I don't seriously believe we can make Obama do anything. He has cast his lot with Wall Street and corporate America and I fear it will be the ruination of us all.

2. SHAME ON H ARRY!
He sounds like a bitter old man. He doesn't know Obama. Does he consider the fact that Obama is surrounded by people who are serious about ptotecting their money? Does he consider that Obama doesn't have backup in the congress to pass the laws he would like to? Does he, like many other "RADICAL LEFTIES" realize that Obama is not a "KING", and just can't make these problems go away? People with this "magical thinking are part of the problem. They just can't face reality, so they use their voice to put people down. And does that help us? No. It just takes people away from the fight.

3. Ironic that you call out those who "use their voice to put people down"
while you use your voice to put people down. Just sayin'

6. Are you blaming the messenger?
Harry is describing what is happening and what has to happen in the interest of helping Obama. No one is in a better position to explain this to Obama than Harry.

7. What is happening is EXACTLY what he says, and if you don't see
that, you are not paying attention! We are being gamed.

10. Obama is surrounded by Wall Street crooks (those you call people
who are serious about protecting their money?) because he appointed them. That was his choice.

Obama is not a king, but he still has a lot of power and the biggest bully pulpit in the entire world. Unfortunately, he is not using either his power or his pulpit as well as he should.

13. Shame on YOU for not bothering to listen to what Mr. Belefonte said
Obama is not a victim or your personal Jesus Christ. He's a corrupted politician like thousands of others throughout our history, and the only way to change that is for the people to hold him accountable for actions that haven't met well with his words.

5. Great words

He's more well-spoken than I am, what an intelligent, thoughtful man. He puts things so gracefully. . . that bit about Obama using his office more as we'd wished from the campaign . . or something like that. Truly artful.

8. IIRC, Belafonte was a Clinton supporter?
Do you think he's still bitter that Hillary lost?

15. (facepalm)
Yeah, you just keep using that excuse. I guess Cornell West was too (since Belefonte said that Obama asked him when are he and Dr. West going to cut him a break? :eyes:

17. Excuse for what? Disagreeing with someone about the President?
Last time I checked, I don't need an excuse.
