5. More people need to see that. The murder of Khaled Said
Edited on Wed Jan-26-11 09:31 PM by Catherina

The murder of Khaled Said
By Issandr El Amrani DateJune 14, 2010 at 11:00 AM

“On Sunday, Khaled was at cyber café at around 11:30 in the evening. Two policemen asked him for money and when he said he didn’t have, they beat him,” Muhammad Abdel Aziz, lawyer with el-Nadeem, told al-Masry al-Youm. “As he was beaten up, his head hit a marble table and he started bleeding.”

According to Abdel Aziz, the policemen took Said out of the cyber café and continued to beat him. “He screamed at them saying ‘I am dying, leave me’, and he fell on the floor.” Abdel Aziz added that witnesses saw a yellow liquid coming out of Said’s mouth when he fell on the floor, after which there was bleeding. A pharmacist and a medic passing by confirmed he was shortly dead after they checked his tension.

Witnesses said a police car picked Said up. His family was later contacted and told he is in the morgue of Kom el-Dekka, to which they were denied access. At the prosecutor’s office, security told Said’s mother and brother that he swallowed a bag of drugs and that there were witnesses to the incident who confirmed seeing the bag. Ahmad Badawy, an activist in Alexandria with al-Ghad Party went on 11 June to the cyber café where the incident happened and said witnesses told him the drugs bag belonged to the two policemen who beat him up as he was shooting a video of them while making a deal.

The video refered to is here: Mohamed Abdelfattah مُحَمَّد عَبْدالفَتَّاحْ: Khaled was 'assassinated' because of http://mfatta7.blogspot.com/2010/06/khaled-was-assassinated-because-of-this.html">this video

The video is gone.

I don't know how many tears I have left.

8. End torture. Prosecute torturers.
What is torture?

It is the venting of anger on a helpless person. It is harming a person whose human rights are in your trust. Torture is always wrong no matter the situation.

End torture. End it in Egypt. End it in the US. End it in Afghanistan and in Iraq. Just stop it.

9. These people have suffered cruelly under Mubarak
Edited on Thu Jan-27-11 06:31 AM by florida08
90% of their population lives in poverty. They're strong though defying a ban to protest. Clinton said yesterday that the government needs to allow them to protest and called for reform. Tunisia ousted it's president/dictator and is searching to arrest him. It started a wave across the region. On twitter, those who still had access, are calling for an even greater protest on Friday.

Reporters are being beaten and jailed. Here's a first hand account from one reporter.

We need to keep attention on this so thanks Turborama

In one fell swoop, the candor of the cables released by WikiLeaks did more for Arab democracy than decades of backstage U.S. diplomacy.

12. After they assassinated Sadat -- and Rabin -- the last peacemakers ...
Edited on Thu Jan-27-11 11:20 AM by defendandprotect
it was obvious that the violent among us had won again --

And, as far as I can see, US always has its hand in the evildoing one way or another --

either backing right wing Israelis and arming them and financing their warmongering

and warmaking in ME -- or pushing war more in ME as VP Biden continues to now --

For a year or more now VP Biden has been calling on Israel to attack Iran!

Biden says "Israel would be justified in attacking Iran" -- !!

Presume they'd be a new military role for US if that were to happen!!

What was it Seymour Hersh said Cheney's theme was: "Turn all the Mosques into

Cathedrals and take all the oil" -- ???

Looks like once Nixon got us a foothold in Israel we were on our way to doing just that!!

16. Riots in Egypt
I know that many liberals support the Muslim Brotherhood and there goals. However, if this insurrection is hijacked by the Imams there will be a massive slaughter of the Coptic Christians. Also the ancient treasures will be destroyed as statues are not allowed in Islam. I'm in no way advocating the present government I just feel some revolutions start with the highest of goals and end up quit different.

Where did you pull that from? Nevermind, I can only imagine. Every liberal I know is vehemently opposed to any religious group taking power anywhere.

As to the video....just so disturbing on every level. How that poor man must have suffered before he died. What agony his family must be going through.

18. All are and should be invited to participate in the movement to overthrow the dictatorship.

Do you also think religious people and groups should also be prohibited from participating in progressive social protest movements in the United States .... or is that banning just for Muslims?

21. I don't believe I said religious groups should not participate
But as a strong believer in the separation of religion and politics, I'd be wary of the intentions of the Muslim Brotherhood, just as I would be of any religious group vying to control government for reasons that should be quite obvious.

that's why they were so uh accommodating and every news organization in the US gave it 24/7 coverage, unlike the revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt.

When in doubt look at how much money the NED is giving which countries to froment our kind of social unrest.

Jesus and goodness my fucking ass. That's some kind of Jesus and goodness bombing kids in Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen, Gaza and Afghanistan. "And Jesus wept".

28. Thats the problem
Revolutions are, in my personal opinion, almost always hijacked by the most violent and ruthless. Which is why I strongly prefer the idea of change from within the system. Unfortunately most systems are pretty damn immune to change from within. Which leaves a problem.

19. Very sad.
I watch this and wonder how people can rail against our right to keep and bear arms. People so sure in the kindness of their government that they will never need to rise up against it. Yet here we people doing just that, resorting to stones and signs and Molotov cocktails, going up against troops and getting beaten to a pulp. It is for just this sort of situation that our founders enumerated our right to keep and bear arms in our second amendment. If Americans ever found themselves in a situation like in Egypt or Tunisia the battle would be a lot less lopsided.

I look at the slides in that video and think, "If only those people had some means to resist!"

25. Guns will not help,. and only make things much worse!
peaceful protests are the only way to remove dictators such as these, guns will only lead to violence and civil war. You think your little guns can stand up to an F-22 Raptor or a UAV with a mini-gun aimed at you from a mile out?? The point of peaceful and massive protest is that the will of the people, when gathered together in numbers, is impossible to put down by oppressive force without tipping you hand as an oppressive regime. (tiananmen square) If you run into the streets with your little pop guns and face the military you will lose, and those that would have supported you will run for cover, defusing your only power as the people. Numbers! Don't be foolish and talk of taking on the military with hunting and sporting weapons,. that is an agent provocateur tactic. You may as well work for the feds with that dim-witted logic.

The people united, can never be defeated.

29. Yup. Your guns are great balance
against armed, armored, trained military forces.

Afghanistan and Iraq are great proof of that. Exactly how are their guns plus religious fanaticism and a willingness to die for the cause fairing in defending the homeland against foreign invaders? by most accounts, our troops are at more risk from their IEDs than their varmint rifles.

I do not get the disconnect from reality of those who advocate for personal gun ownership as a balance to military power. Our Military forces are trained to kill humans, have far superior armament and armor both personal and vehicle, and are trained to work in units, with tacticians planning their moves. Plus they now by and large have in the field experience. Your average citizen has some target practice. Maybe some hunting experience? Even Bears don't tend to hunt back. Its a massive inequality, and the only thing holding the trained military force back is the law and their own innate humanity. Shoot at them and see exactly how far that gets you.

The truth is that's what happens when a military with a gun feels threatened by someone. The man in your video could have been holding an Uzi. It wouldn't have stopped the bullet.

In fact sniper attacks are one of the more deadly attacks, and are far cheaper and easier to execute than planting bombs. No doubt other weapons of war besides small arms are always used in war, but no army yet has abandoned them.

Afghanistan and Iraq are great proof - proof that even a vastly technologically inferior force can overwhelm a vastly technologically superior one. We saw it in Vietnam, the Soviets saw it in Afghanistan, we are now pulling out of Iraq, and we'll pull out of Afghanistan also.

I do not get the disconnect from reality of those who advocate for personal gun ownership as a balance to military power. Tell that to the Vietcong. Rolling goods down the Ho Chi Min trail on bicycles with no tires. You underestimate people fighting for their homes and families. You also underestimate the massive economic damage that happens when civil war breaks out. This directly undermines taxable income for the government to use, and in fact is probably more of a direct threat to it than direct battle.

The truth is that's what happens when a military with a gun feels threatened by someone. The man in your video could have been holding an Uzi. It wouldn't have stopped the bullet.

If there were 10 other people in buildings with sniper rifles they wouldn't be standing out in the open beating protesters, I can tell you that.

20. It's time for the world to stop buying the official Bulldust
The Powers that be in the USA only have their self interest at heart.

They are not a benevolent Big Brother trying to spread some sort of Western Enlightenment to the world through Free Trade.

Heck Americans themselves can't even decide on their own philosophy and they are deeply divided politically at the moment.

The internet has been popularized and cyber worlds built on the freedom of the masses. We, the average folks of the world can now talk to each other. This is where people have now become more free. This is where perhaps the American philosophy of Freedom, and the European Democratic way can actually be spread to other countries. Instead of being filtered through corrupt politicians, corrupt Business Managers and Corrupt CIA practices.

I was called a Liberal C*** on Youtube yesterday, and in the same reply I was abused for being Australian, and that I obviously support Assange and other Australian Lefty Causes.

Well, all I can say is today - I am proud to be a Liberal C***

Down with Teabaggers and corrupt dictators I say!

I pray that Egypt wins it's freedom and that the 3rd world shakes off the shackles of corrupt administrations propped up by the American Government.

(P.S. I'm not Anti_American. I feel the real America is it's citizens and not it's powerful owners).
