1. Must see! (just wish for a different title)
They're not saying "no more hate," they're saying "stop the wealthy people's generations-long class warfare against the working people and the poor in America."

They're saying, "don't let the rich get away with putting all the costs of their mistakes onto the backs of the poor and working people."

5. "we should all be out there!" Indeed, Mary, but it just isn't a "progressive" priority.
But, plenty of complaints about the lack of votes.

The two go together.

Compassionate? No, as the protestors are saying, NEITHER party is doing for us what is needed.

So, Dems, get out there and work for this "CHANGE"!!!

7. I'd love to be out there
No transportation though - and I'm broke, like most people. Maybe what we need to do is get together in millions and set up a huge fucking camp in Washington DC. Think they'd pay attention when thousands of people were sleeping in the middle of the streets?

9. It worked for the Bonus Army...... after Patton burned it down. :(
The point, I think, it not to be where *they* are, but to do this in every city, every state.

The point is to make this an important issue for "progressives", which it is NOT now.

We are hardly *ever* thought of.

We must change that. We must make ourselves heard!!!!

11. One small point.
It wasn’t Patton. It was Douglas McArthur.

12. Patton was there, also. Read the fascinating story of Joe Angelo.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Angelo

That story demonstrates so much about this nation that is just wrong. :(

8. Good points
The only reason the rich are able to get away with all of this is that most people don't even know all the facts about it. They listen to the pundits talk about the need for "shared sacrifice" but the reality is that the rich are getting all the tax breaks and none of the bills. The only people "sharing" the sacrifices are the elderly, the poor, those with health challenges, and the working people.

We all should be getting the truth out but the poor and the unemployed don't have the money to participate in massive marches on Washington DC. Maybe there should be more attention paid to that as well. No marches = no change!

10. I'm completely with you about getting the facts out! Please, propose 5 steps toward this, and lets
get started!

Now, if not yesterday!

6. What is VERY IMPORTANT is that poor people are also including disabled people, rather than the
"progressives" who are only talking about "the working poor".

Take the hint.

15. Exactly. So, why isn't that happening? Why are poor people left to protest alone?

16. Maybe it's because they don't know how to do it?
Watching this might get some motivated, sharing with 3 who share with 3... might snowball...and as you said before, local is fine, maybe even better if it's happening a lot of places at once... (local press tends to cover better...)

17. ??? They don't know how? They can protest for other stuff just fine.
Nope... its the priorities.

Poor people don't count, and we are left on our own.

There are a few stories on DU right now about cuts affecting poor people.... where are the protestors?

18. Of those few who are protesting
Edited on Sat Jan-15-11 03:45 PM by maryf
many protest other issues, and poverty is not one of them. But what I meant is that there are very few people protesting period. Except maybe at false rallies, like the October 2nd or Jon Stewart rallies. I went to the October 2nd rally as there was a promotion for human needs, education, housing, and jobs. I didn't expect much, but it was worse than I expected. Sooo many people I talked to said that it was their first protest, and most thought is was great, ugh, very, very sad first experience...they didn't shout, they didn't march...they said the pledge to the flag half way through...

The numbers are way down from what they used to be, way down...Greece, France, Tunisia, GB, all over people are protesting the dire conditions, not here... and yes you are so right, many don't count poverty as a priority...
