I've had occasion to hear him have a civil debate with a liberal Democrat now and then back when I was a regular listener to his radio program. That, however, was back in 1993-94. After the Republicans took Congress in 1994, Rush's show and demeanor began to change, and not for the better. It got to the point where I lost interest in listening to him anymore, even if I did vote for Republican candidates.

I'm happy to say, however, that my last Republican vote was in the GOP primary in 2000. Since then, I've voted Democratic (including for Al Gore in the 2000 Presidential race) and haven't looked back since.

6. Dunno, there's a semi-famous clip from 1990 of Rush getting his ass handed to him by an entire...

..audience. He was guest hosting Pat Sajak's talk show. In this case he inflamed the audience not just by his comments but he had also made a name for himself being vitriolic by then. I've never listened to him that much but I thought the clip was revealing. Hard to imagine him doing the Rush act so many years ago.

This may have been his first appearance as a host on TV, based on the little talk he gives at the very end of the show.

But the weekday programs repeated on the weekends. There was also a 30-minute, weekday morning television program. The TV audience applauded vigorously at every instance of the fulsome praise he gave himself. It was an unnatural, Pavlovian performance.

That's where I saw him refer to Chelsea Clinton as a dog. It was fascinating as he described his marriage with Marta, which he said they hadn't consumated as they were waiting for the appropriate time. Who would tell anyone that? The audience ate it all up, hanging on his every word.

I listened to him on the radio as he went on day after day about how Hillary Clinton's proposed healthcare plan would kill people. It worked so well the GOP got majority, making Newt Gingrich Speaker and we know what happened after that.

I used to be a listener too from 88-89 to the early 90's but he became increasingly pompous, hostile to the working class ( his dog whistle term was "big laburrr" ) and his stupid songs and montages ridiculing this or that position were clearly distortions, then to a Republican party hack. Now I can't stand to hear him even briefly even on a clips such as these. I was I guess slightly right of center back then, but no doubt would be considered a full blown leftie by him now. Fine with me. He's nutz..........
