Unfortunately, I have not been able to catch Rachel Maddow tonight, but I understand she made a passionate rebuttal against what P&T state in this short video clip. I therefore submit this for your consideration until Rachel's latest thoughts are made available in DU's Political Videos forum.

3. I'm disappointed in P&T
I expected all the people holding guns at the end to be naked.

5. Penn & Teller (who I love) also did an entire episode about why global warming is bullshit.
They are Libertarians, and seem to be skeptical about everything except for their own Libertarian beliefs.

Their opinions should be evaluated on the facts, not because of who they are.

6. I heartily agree with that sentiment
I've actually met with P&T a couple of times, and they're a swell couple of guys up close and personal. But they are also capable of getting it wrong on some positions, and global climate change is one of them. I thought Al Gore laid out his argument magnificently - I started using fluorescent light bulbs before it was even considered "cool" to do so, thanks to Al.

7. absolutely! Pale Blue Dot
If guns did make us safer in any way then by extension we should arm all nations with nukes. It's the same stupid argument.

8. Did you see the video in the OP?

Penn specifically stated, "We're not saying you'll be safer if you have a gun..." That's not the argument they were trying to make in that snippet.

9. Are you certain you personally saw an episode where they claimed global warming is bullshit?
Unless we are thinking of different episodes, they never said global warming is bullshit.

13. I just watched the part of that episode on youtube, but unfortunately, the video
ended just as they were discussing global warming, and the Part 2 video started on their next segment. I did hear them say the science was "inconclusive," but the video cut off mid-sentence.

I saw another episode of theirs where they stated they did not know anything about global warming. This is why I questioned your claim about them.

10. They do admit when it's proven they're wrong
They did something on second-hand smoke - basically saying the science behind the harmful side effects was bad, but then new info was brought to their attention so they admitted they were wrong at some conference.

12. They make valid point ...
but having said that, we are no where near the point of needing a revolution.

Perhaps the reason that we have had basically the same style of government since the Constitution was written is the fact that we have the Second Amendment. Of course the most important Amendment is the First.

Only about 7,000 words long, the U.S. Constitution is one of the shortest constitutions in the world. It is also the oldest written constitution still in effect.

I know someone will bring up the Civil War but that was fought over an issue that the framers were not able to solve when they wrote the Constitution. Slavery was a malignancy that needed to be cut out even back in 1787. Unfortunately the delegates opposed to slavery could not override those who were opposed.

14. Only in America do we have such paranoia about the government that we must be armed to the teeth
There's not another civilized country in the world where people's distrust of the government is so extreme that they feel the need to have machine guns in the closet. Of course, none of their political systems are quite as ideally suited to hostile takeover by multinational corporations either. The irony of it all is that when the corporations do finally and completely take over our government, these same gun nuts will be the ones who will see it as a good thing.
