What Are The Long Term Health Effects of the BP Oil Spill?, WJHG, November 9, 2010:

Transcript Excerpts Dr. Soto also says he's seeing more patients who are testing positive for toxic agents associated with the oil spill in excess of the 95th percentile. If they're spreading beyond the shoreline, could we all be at risk?... hen you get a huge load of toxins and chemicals, then the system gets overhwelmed and can't take care of it. It stays in the tissues effecting their functions; Brain functions, immune system, hormonal function etc... "We're not talking about short term effects of irritation in the airways, headaches, or rashes people have been experiencing from symptoms that we get calls here in the office for. "I'm more concerned about the long term health effects. Nobody talks about it, nobody's even thinking of that 5,10,15, 20 years from now that we're going to see--cancer" says Dr. Soto.

1. We've already been assured that the gulf is clean, the seafood is fine
and that we can all sit down and shut up now.

3. Here's one way to add your voice to this debacle.
Link to petition from Defenders of Wildlife concerning the continued risk of offshore drilling.

Time is running out for Congress to act. Urge your representative and senators to pass the Clean Energy Jobs and Oil Accountability Act before Congress adjourns for the year.

http://dfnd.us/coFrFU

This is what I added to my letter.

Far from being over, the Deepwater Horizon disaster is still very much active. Each day brings more reports of oil, toxins from Corexit, dead or dying fish and marine life, dead or dying birds and the loss of a way of life for the people living in the Gulf region.

Oil and tar are still very much present on and in the sand and water at many of the beaches. This exposes beach goers to the risk of immediate and long term health problems.

This industry has been given many chances to literally clean up their way of operating and doing business and still has shown little desire to operate in an environmentally friendly manner.

Fines and penalties are no more than a nuisance to these corporate giants. Accidents have to be prevented from occurring in the first place. That is the only way to truly protect the environment and the various forms of life (including humans) that depend on a safe and healthy ecosystem.

Please make every effort to pass the Clean Energy Jobs and Oil Accountability Act this congress.

I wish that I could say that I'm confident that our government will put the interests of the environment and US citizens ahead of corporate influence, but.................

5. You're the one that's been keeping us up to date through this crime.
You're welcome for the link, but you made it possible.

I was a little worried a few minutes ago. I checked my link to make sure that it was still working and they are no longer taking action on this.

The good news is that their goal was 35,000 signatures and they froze it after it went over 37,000!!!!

8. Mea culpa.
One page says that it's no longer active, but I was still able to add my wife's name a minute ago.

Thanks for the correction!
