Many climate deniers still seem to think global warming was invented by Al Gore, in 2006.
As this recently uncovered recording from 1956 shows, the outlines of climate change science have been clear for many decades.

1. Which begs me to ask - where the frack were they when it was taught in
schools? Oh wait that may have been during Carter's administration I was taught about global warming. I remember the gas lines too.

Cheers
Sandy
How far backwards have we been dragged. assholes.

2. getting harder to deny
I was listening to local RW radio, they cut away to read the news on Minnesota's moose hunt. The story ended with the statement that "the moose population in Minnesota is declining because of climate change". There was dead silence from the RW host yakkers.

3. Anybody who lives out in the country knows
it is terrifyingly true as insects, birds, amphibians, animals vanish at a rate that makes me fear for my grandchildren. Do they have any future at all?

4. as insects, birds, amphibians, animals vanish

Here they're on the rise.... but mostly species that used to live well South of us! Especially the insects.

BTW.... wasn't that an amazing episode? All I can do is imagine what it might be like now if this had become common knowledge in 1956 and acted upon since then. Acted upon in a responsible way... or an irresponsible way. What unknown things would have cropped up that might have made things worse than they are now... or amazingly better? What if for my whole life (I was born in 1956) what we belch into the air and how it effects climate had been a common concern and an everyday topic. Would everyone have a car? Would there be county-wide public transpo? Would we have ever gone to the moon? Would everybody be farming hippies with long hair and in clogs? Would we all be speaking Russian? Would we be more heavily forested? Use a different fuel by now? And on and on....

7. They've said .... "All life is moving North" ---
Here in NJ our gardening businesses have long been offering TROPICAL flowers!

They can't make it thru the winter, but if you take them indoors -- i.e., large

potted plants -- they can.

5. Keep in mind, GOP propagandist Frank Luntz dubbed it "climate change" ....

pressured Bush to change the name -- that was 2002 --

It is Global Warming which makes clear what the discussion is about -- i.e., HEAT.

When we heat up the environment we create chaotic weather --

that's what's happening to us right now -- and it will increase, but no one knows how

it will compound.

6. Also, "World Scientists Warning to Humanity/1992" ....
http://deoxy.org/sciwarn.htm

Long list of invaluable information ... but want to point out how we have to

understand our problems from the highest perspectives ---

As they outline here ....

What We Must Do

Five inextricably linked areas must be addressed simultaneously:

1. We must bring environmentally damaging activities under control to restore and protect the integrity of the earth's systems we depend on. We must, for example, move away from fossil fuels to more benign, inexhaustible energy sources to cut greenhouse gas emissions and the pollution of our air and water. Priority must be given to the development of energy sources matched to third world needs -- small scale and relatively easy to implement. We must halt deforestation, injury to and loss of agricultural land, and the loss of terrestrial and marine plant and animal species.

2. We must manage resources crucial to human welfare more effectively. We must give high priority to efficient use of energy, water, and other materials, including expansion of conservation and recycling.

3. We must

stabilize population.

This will be possible only if all nations recognize that it requires improved social and economic conditions, and the adoption of effective, voluntary family planning.

4. We must reduce and eventually

eliminate poverty.

5. We must ensure

sexual equality, and guarantee women control over their own reproductive decisions.

Acting on this recognition is not altruism, but enlightened self-interest: whether industrialized or not, we all have but one lifeboat. No nation can escape from injury when global biological systems are damaged. No nation can escape from conflicts over increasingly scarce resources. In addition, environmental and economic instabilities will cause mass migrations with incalculable consequences for developed and undeveloped nations alike.

8. Kick
:kick:

The issues we discuss today were already foreseen on that old record from 55 years ago.

And now, here we are, allowing this sick corporate juggernaut to drive us right off a cliff.

Fucking disgusting.
