Granted, he says that we should repeal now because we are "no longer at the height of the Iraq War," not because repealing DADT is simply the right thing to do.

I personally think this man is a craven opportunist and political coward, but if his voice is helpful in swaying even one GOP Senator to support repealing DADT during the lame duck session (insofar that Guiliani still has any influence or relevance in those circles), then perhaps his support on this issue may be a net positive.

Posting for whatever this is worth.

2. This is more about him jumping on a big topic to sniff out a potential run
than his actually wanting DADT to stop. I can't give kudos to someone who is this craven. And he knows full well the GOP is going to ignore his theatrics.

5. He Is Politically Dead And That's Why He's Saying It
If he were going to run again, he would not be saying it.

if they are really after 2012. The military industry should be backing this to be real, more soldiers more weapons sold. Come corporations a chance to get itright for once.

7. .. or in other words, the GOP is positioning itself to do what Obama wouldn't ...
.... welcome to 2012. Everything POTUS could have done but didn't - for whatever reason will be championed by the GOP as their new platform in preparation for the next General Election. Sure, once they get elected, all those promises will be out the window but for the next 2 years, look for them to float some populist balloons to expand their voter base...

8. Guiliani is a dickhead (no offense to any dicks)
What a dweeb. His party has steadfastly opposed any moves toward recognizing gays and lesbians as Americans entitled to equal protection under the law.

They have opposed
- Repeal of sodomy laws - Lawrence v. Texas resolved this matter
- Hate crimes legislation recognizing anti-gay/lesbian bias
- ENDA to ensure employers cannot terminate someone solely because of their sexual orientation
- Adoptions by gay and lesbians
- Funding for AIDS research. Recall the 1980s when RR and his buddies called AIDS God's revenge on the homos
- Repeal of DADT
- Marriage equality (supporting amendments to state constitutions "protecting" marriage from "the gay" and supporting DOMA (unfortunately signed by Bill "please smoke my cigar" Clinton)

They will continue to oppose GLBT equality as long as it serves their political purposes which are to keep the religious nutcases in the party riled up. It is the same with abortion. They have no intention of ever eliminating Roe v. Wade because it is such a convenient wedge issue.

The real players in the Republic party could care less about Jesus, Buddha, Mohammed or Satan as long as they can find an angle to use it for their political gain.
