2. Steve Leser may be very wrong.
What if the Tea Party types, and the John Boehners who saw that they won this election by standing firm in refusing to cooperate in the slightest with Democrats decide to risk it all and stick with their policy of refusing to cooperate in the slightest with Democrats?

That is what a good number of them will do.

If that happens, and I expect that it will, then the few sane remaining Republicans will have to decide whether to cross the party line and work with Democrats or stay true to the extremists in the Republican Party and throw a sort of Congressional tantrum to put the country into great disarray and make Obama look a fool.

So, it is going to be up to the "moderate" Republicans. They are in charge now.

While normally that would mean that Obama could work with them, inch a little in their direction but still get some meaningful legislation through Congress, it may not work that way this time.

In fact, I think that after what we saw in this year's election, what with the enormous successes of the most truculent of the Republicans such as Rand Paul and the close call in Nevada, we will see moderate Republicans in the Senate and House trying to earn their stripes in the Congressional battle to show who can be the most uncooperative, the most stubborn, the most in-your-face to Obama.

The Republicans are sort of fighting in what I imagine to be the style of baboons. They are staring the Democrats down, making ridiculous faces, so to speak, stomping their feet and daring the Democrats to try to reach out a hand and be friendly.

As soon as Democrats do reach out their hand, the baboon-Republican pack will spit at the Democrats and then giggle amongst themselves, cheered on, of course, by Fox News, CNN, ABC, NBC and CBS. Nothing will get done unless it is done the way the most extreme Republicans want.

I'm very sorry for Obama in this situation. But he is going to have to be very patient and start focusing on educating the American people, talking directly to the American people, every single day if he has to, to educate Americans about just where he is trying to go. He should forget his press spokesman and just speak for himself. That is what the American people need to remind them that Obama is working for them.

Obama's sense of direction is good, but he gets too caught up in watching who is behind him and what other drivers on the road are doing. Sure, he should be watching and reacting, but he has to keep his eyes on the road ahead and not let himself get distracted and veer off to the side of the road. He has swerved too much in the first two years. I know it has been tough, but he has to focus more on where he is going and less on compromises with people who do not want to compromise.

Obama was wrong in telling us that we had to keep him on track. It's his job to keep the American people on track. That's the part of his job he has not done well.

I think that Obama should focus on educating Americans about the issues and his points of view.

It is really strange that we Democrats are the best educated, most savvy voters, and yet we have no strategy for educating voters.

The Republicans have numerous Think Tanks that study how to manipulate the voters, how to present economic data so as to confuse people and how to change blue to red.

We have no such educational structure. It's about time that we Democratic bloggers who bring so much academic and practical experience and knowledge to the table, start working together.

We need to start a bunch of Think Tanks that invite academics to participate on a volunteer basis. It is frustrating to see Democrats out their working on a lone wolf basis while Republicans are organized into groups of pundits.

Some radio shows hire people to appear on their programs and present their books and articles and points of view. It must be easy for them to find conservatives. There are far more liberal experts than conservative ones, but liberal experts are not easily located.

We need to make that easier.

You are very articulate and effective. Are you on such a list? Do you work with a sort of think tank that can send you to speak on behalf of a point of view? There are so many of these pseudointellectuals with credentials from the American Enterprise Institute. Maybe I am wrong, be we don't seem to have a comparable engine for publicizing our ideas.

I already told you what my point of view is on Obama's strategy. He needs to go past the traditions of press spokespersons, etc. People want to hear from Obama himself, not from some guy who gets briefed by Obama's assistant, assistant or even by Obama himself.

These are urgent times. Americans need to hear from the president every single morning.
