We always joke about how early this campaign starts every year. Who knew they would try and make a Christmas classic out of it. An atheist grinch steals Christmas story no less! I think I know the individual who inspired this story as he successfully sued the city to remove a nativity scene from the city park next to city hall. It was a very ugly court case locally. A citizen whose land was adjacent to the park let them move the nativity scene to her lawn after the city lost in court.

and because Faux is broadcast internationally live 24/7 that sorry little "anti-Christmas" tale actually went global.

And yeah, it does seem extrememly early for this. Christmas is more than 3 months away!

The Brights are an atheist organization that mainly focuses on having a world view free of mysticism and superstition.

I do think they might have been less obvious with that shot at the Brights, however, as Penn and Teller are Brights and might decide to take this issue on.

Christmas stories are almost always about having faith and miracles happening, whether it's about the "spirit" of Christmas or believing in Santa, with the "rational" person being in the wrong. But it annoys the fuck out of me that those who make such movies like this, and put out such propaganda, equate people who don't want a certain religion shoved down their throat as equal to "outlawing" people's right to be religious. No one is playing Grinch here, storming into people's homes and ripping out their Christmas trees. And even if they did, maybe these people should re-read "The Grinch" and realize that their faith means nothing if it requires such things for Christmas to have any meaning for them.

I'd love to have all Christians who believe this sort of hogwash sent to a fundamentalist Islamic country which shoves its religion down their throat, where the government advocates one religion over all others and there's no escaping it, and see how they like it when they have no "freedom" to keep their children and themselves from being bombarded by that religion's proselytizing. Maybe they'd finally get what these arguments against public nativity scenes and 10 commandments in the courthouses are all about.

African Americans 13% of population
GLBT maybe 10-15% (Hard to tell due to obviously reasons...The 2000 Census said less than 1% of households are homosexual)
Latinos 15-18%
Atheist 10-15%
(These figures were off the top of my head so they are estimates but I think my point is clear)

All we hear from the right is THE GAY AGENDA or EVIL ATHEIST & tons of veiled racial comments all of which turn a very small minority into the greatest threat to "real Americans" & their families...Which is all BS! All the Right wants to do is "divide & conquer"...It makes me sick! And they are the ones who claim ultimate patriotism & defenders of American Values! WTF?

However, how do you overcome such BS when Rupert Murdoch's Media Empire is spreading such BS & that influences others to repeat the same like this movie!

I'm totally going to see it, and I wouldn't be surprised if it replaces A Christmas Story and Nightmare Before Christmas as the must-watch defining films of the season year in and year out.

Like a great big bowl of sugar with honey ladled over it. Like the worst of 'Lifetime' made for TV movies on caffiene and B12. As it is now I'm already seeing Halloween kitsch in the stores, and now the "War on Christmas" bullshit email forwards will clutter my hard drive yet again. This thing will just encourage them all the more. In fact I can see it now: "The movie the evil liberal film industry doesn't want you to see....make sure you send this to everybody you know to get this released in theatres" Blah blah blah.

On the other hand: I very much look forward to the excellently sardonic 'A Christmas Story' this year again. Does a great job pointing out what a PIA the whole holiday thing was to adults even way back then...and how the young kids were thankfully unaware and still in the thrall of it all, before real life ruins all the mystique.
