What do you guys think of this?
I was debating with an independant today, and he showed me this video

Is Ron Paul correct? Are there not only over 100K mercenaries in Iraq but also that may increase?

Please fellow DU members, let me know what you think as i'm a little.....worried.

Thx

Google 'number of mercenaries in iraq'.

Just like I did!

6. He's completely correct.

At least with Foreign Policy. You'll probably find yourself disagreeing with him in most domestic issues, if you are a party line Democrat or a Progressive though.

I often find myself wondering if I'd be willing to eat 4 years of his domestic policy, to get these foreign wars and occupations halted.

Edit: For a more agreeable 'total package', you'll probably prefer Kucinich.

7. YES! i would be willing to 'sacrifice' domestic policy to implement his foreign policy.
Besides. who's to say his domestic policies would not work? the man is a little radical with some issues, but he is one of the more thoughtful, intelligent, even honest pols that we have in washington.
wish i could say that about our current leader

8. He would nuke Social Security if he could.
For starters. He'd spike the Health Care bill too, if he could.

On the other hand, he'd work to destroy the Federal Reserve, and probably start actually directing the DOJ to throw criminal businessmen in jail.

So I think his domestic policy would be a mixed bag of win/lose for us.
But man, that foreign policy sure is tempting, isn't it?

9. wouldn't it be nice to live in a country that does not bully the world, that does not go to war out
of paranoia? how could that not also help us domestically?
re social security: i'm 62, been paying into ss since i was 18. i wish i had the choice during those 44 years of how to invest my hard-earned money, and how to get it back. i'm now collecting $1500/mo until i die - not a very good return on my investment.
anyway, i'm with you on the war thing, brother.

10. I agree that his anti-war policy might ...
I repeat ... might, be nice; but as with every other ascendant to the office, the political reality of the office would no doubt change his stance.

I keep hearing people talk about paying into SS and the paltry return that they get upon at 62. What is distressing to me is when it is followed by the "what-if" of "i wish i had the choice during those 44 years of how to invest my hard-earned money."

Well, take whatever you think you would have contributed; cut that amount by 1/2, if not 3/4; then spread it across the actuarial remainder of your life. I suspect that figure would result in significantly less than your current $1,500/month.
