43. "Man Already Knows Everything He Needs to Know About Muslims"
Edited on Tue Aug-31-10 02:01 PM by Turborama
SALINA, KS—Local man Scott Gentries told reporters Wednesday that his deliberately limited grasp of Islamic history and culture was still more than sufficient to shape his views of the entire Muslim world.

Gentries, 48, said he had absolutely no interest in exposing himself to further knowledge of Islamic civilization or putting his sweeping opinions into a broader context of any kind, and confirmed he was "perfectly happy" to make a handful of emotionally charged words the basis of his mistrust toward all members of the world's second-largest religion.

"I learned all that really matters about the Muslim faith on 9/11," Gentries said in reference to the terrorist attacks on the United States undertaken by 19 of Islam's approximately 1.6 billion practitioners. "What more do I need to know to stigmatize Muslims everywhere as inherently violent radicals?"

"And now they want to build a mosque at Ground Zero," continued Gentries, eliminating any distinction between the 9/11 hijackers and Muslims in general. "No, I won't examine the accuracy of that statement, but yes, I will allow myself to be outraged by it and use it as evidence of these people's universal callousness toward Americans who lost loved ones when the Twin Towers fell."

9. props to interviewer
I agree the interviewer did great at respectfully disproving untrue claims, yet each time he would get a reply like "yeah but I'm just telling you what my sister told me or what I saw on the news the other day." These people exemplify worse than ignorance because they act like they are correct when they have very little credibility. Also, the similarities in their replies shows that they are all fox addicts. So it goes.

13. 95% of what they said
sounded like it was regugitated (to the best of their limited abilities) straight from Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Fox "News". The old lady in the brown was having a particularly hard time remembering exactly why she was there. Although with this in mind it's easy for me to believe that none of them could remember Gwenn calling Obama a racist (Even if it did happen on Fox "News") My experience with right wingers has been that they have a great deal of trouble recalling things that are inconvenient to their current positions.

17. This is why
I don't ever attempt to have any logical discourse with them and their ilk. They're in complete denial of anything and everything they don't agree with no matter how overwhelming the empirical evidence shows. The one moron who said he 'didn't believe Beck said Obama was a racist' is the prime example. Will someone tell the fucking idiot that GLENN BECK HIMSELF ADMITTED TO SAYING THIS AND REGRETTING HAVING SAID IT? He admitted it to Chris Wallace on Sunday and went on to say he has a big mouth at times and is sorry about the whole episode.

But then again if someone showed the Beck statement along with TV footage to the knuckle dragger, he'd probably retort something like the video was fake or the person on TV was someone who looked like Beck but wasn't the real deal.

So, once more, I NEVER talk to them outside of attacking them and mocking them on their blogs. They deserve nothing else.

19. the ignorance, delusion, and parroting of RW propaganda is frightening- THESE people don't
realize that what they are saying about America losing is way and it's values is because of THEM. Their patriotic heart strings are being manipulated by RW media and power players, corporations, the military industrial complex, oil companies and libertarian billionaires to further their agendas, power and profits. They epitomize intolerance, ignorance, lack of education in public affairs and civics, and blind unquestioning patriotism- all things the founders they say they so respect would be horrified by.

"all I needed to know about Islam i learned on 9/11"
"all i know is what my sister tells me"
"Beck never said Obama was a racist"
"I believe Obama is a racist because HE (my emphasis) is dividing this country into blacks against whites"

22. Looks like most of the attendees were middle agers who have
kept their noses to the corporate grindstone all their lives and their heads in the sand. Sad, these are people who represent the 'backbone of America'; people who have so busy making a living for themselves that they neglected continuing their education. Now when they might have a little time to broaden their education they pay attention to very narrow perspective from some one like Glen Beck. People who probably haven't taken time throughout their lives to raise their level of conscience or even investigate their personal spiritual beliefs.

Edited on Tue Aug-31-10 11:39 AM by GreenTea
BIG time!

Dumbing down America has been the republicans agenda & ideological goal for many, many years and one can easily see why.....

Just look at the only consistent republican stronghold - The south - Republican voters there are as dumb as post, sheep, spewing out Limbaugh, Fox news republican propaganda....

Republicans wrap it all up for the sheep in phony patriotism and these uneducated, uninformed racist eat it up and believe they need to save America from dark skinned people who are "taking over" & "destroying America" -

As the republicans, the rich and corporations pick these knuckle-draggers pockets and at the same time the corporate republican party has these same dumed-down morons do their dirty work for them and these people are fed that their ugly hate is patriotic and good for America.

Keep the people dumb and you can get away with anything!

They are scared of "them" -- the blacks, the illegals, anyone who doesn't look, act, and talk just like them. Ignorance was on display, for sure. But mostly it was just fear, plain and simple. These are small-minded people with small world views, who probably have never interacted with an honest-to-goodness black person or illegal before. And as others have said, this kind of small-minded ignorance makes my head hurt.

36. these are the people James Madison
was concerned about in his essay of the Federalist Papers..and is why we have a representative democracy instead of a direct one.

No. 10 addresses the question of how to guard against "factions," or groups of citizens, with interests contrary to the rights of others or the interests of the whole community.

Madison argued that a strong, large republic would be a better guard against those dangers than smaller republics—for instance, the individual states...

He saw direct democracy as a danger to individual rights and advocated a representative democracy in order to protect what he viewed as individual liberty from majority rule, or from the effects of such inequality within society.

"A pure democracy can admit no cure for the mischiefs of faction

Madison is the Father of the Constitution...author of the Bill of Rights

I hear this straw man a lot that this is a republic not a democracy but the proof is in the paper

52. True.
Edited on Tue Aug-31-10 05:03 PM by liberation
Furthermore, republic and democracy are two different concepts which these morons usually have a tough time wrapping their feeble brains around. Technically we are a Constitutional Democratic Republic. We do have a constitution as the law of the land (Constitutional), we elect our representatives via somewhat democratic method (Democracy), and we do not have a king and our head of state is selected and not for life (Republic).

I am however of the opinion that our founding fathers' views on "democracy" were deeply flawed. They saw our country as a patrician democracy, which is something veeeeeeery different from an actual populist democracy favored around the world, esp. after WWII. And that spirit is still prevalent in our democracy through the years, that is why the highest represented segment of our population in government is also our smallest: millionaires. Thus keeping with that original patrician view our founding fathers had for their design. The level of dow right scorn they had for the "masses" is not a good thing, at all...

54. This much stupid should be illegal.
Christ on a nailed fucking stick, that was painful. PAINFUL. The only thing these people have ever cracked in their miserable deluded lives is their ass.

55. New immigrants don't want to learn English.
Apparently they don't understand how Little Italy, Little Poland, Little China, Little Russia, Little Saigon, etc. got their names. It is not uncommon for first generation immigrants to have difficulty learning English and their children are the ones who learn it as a first language.

They must think their Great Great Grandparents knew English before they came to America. That is, if they even knew how to read and write very well at all.

57. I could think but one thing.
I don't care what the facts are, I believe what I believe. I don't know whether to be scared, angry or sad. I will say this: Beck and his disgusting minions know about this ignorance. Hell, the count on it. They are making millions off of it, and these otherwise decent people are suckers. Can I say this: everything I need to know about Catholicism I learned from the priest abuse scandal? As a person whose Church PAID HIS RENT when I was out of work and paid for psychotherapy when I needed it, this really hits home.

Next time he needs to tell them to glue their mouths shut as well. These people are embarrassing!

60. WOW!
The responses from these clods are astounding.
I give a lot of respect to the interviewer for letting them speak their peace. He gave them enough rope to explain and they still hang themselves. It proves that RW talk radio and FOX News is toxic. They spew the same talking points they believe in. Even when they are confronted with facts they still keep repeating the same BS talking points. That's way too many idiots gathering at one place!

74. Honestly, I don't think he'd bother.
They are low hanging fruit. He'd go for the more complex stuff. But yeah, they are an interesting study in indoctrination. Sort of follows the Goebles/Hitler model I think.

76. Orwell already saw these degenerates coming from miles away.
He even coined the term that perfectly describes this situation: doublethink. And a bunch of racist old white assholes claiming they are "taking back" the civil rights movement is just that a bunch of degenerates and their runaway doublethink.

Orwell knew that wanting to have it both ways was a inherent to the Anglo-Saxon character that is why the book takes place in Oceania (which looks pretty darned close a hybrid of the USA and British Common Wealth by no coincidence me thinks)

65. I'd bet at least half of these "good citizens" would FAIL the citizenship tests...
... we give to naturalized citizens.

I'll bet they know less about our constitution and civics, etc. than those immigrating here now do.

I wonder what they would do if we get an ice age here in North America with "The Day After" plot and would have to take similar citizenship tests in Mexico if they were forced to move down there.

These people are afraid and damn well should be! They are ignorant as hell and are afraid of being used, but too damn arrogant to admit it and therefore eat up the crap that swindlers like Glenn Beck feed them!

67. I don't even know what to say.
First off they are the ones dividing America and the people they elect. Also equating all terrorists with Islam is just dumb. In the last 50 years how many Muslims blew up the Federal Building in OKC, or sent letter bombs to people or bombed the Olympics, or shot sitting Presidents, and future ones? How many Muslims killed a bunch on little kids in a school, execution style? Oh but those are isolated incidents. Like the isolated incident where a man convinces over 900 people to kill themselves.

My point is that these people are they people they hate.

If anything, weep for the past and hope it is dying out. I like to think these are just the desperate gasps of a dying breed.

81. No. These are the people in my area, who are raising the next
generation of uneducated little haters. They are bringing up their kids on a steady diet of twisted christianity, greed and fox news. Add that to a failing, underfunded (by design) education system and you have right wing hate that will live on for generations to come, and as society becomes less educated and the media becomes more corporate controlled, The future is pretty bleak.Stupidity, intolerance, hate, racism and misinformation is bred into these people and their children and grandchildren. It is prevalent even in my own family, and there is no reaching these people.
