I had a college textbook some years back that credited the Church as being "a beacon of hope" during the dark ages. I guess that's true the same way a drug dealer is a beacon of hope to the addict. They both work to create the situation in which they're needed.

11. In Catholic World, there's only one issue--abortion.

Depending on the priest, you can regularly hear sermons denouncing any candidate or party in a roundabout way that does not oppose abortion. It is the only issue. That's why the Catholic Church's subordinate, Right to Life, endorses a straight-line Republican ticket every election. Never mind that their endorsed candidate lies our country into wars that destroy lives, never mind that their candidate supports tax and economic policies that widen the chasm between rich and poor, never mind the person can be an adulterer, divorced and have a dysfunctional family. And never mind that they will endorse Republicans running for local and state offices that have no effect on abortion laws in this country.
