1. Christianity is Supposed to be ...
...improving yourself and serving other people.

Conservatives have completely perveted what worshipping Christ is supposed to be.

2. It's funny
Edited on Thu Aug-05-10 07:47 PM by LBJDemocrat
She pretends to be a Christian when Republican evangelical Christianity is dominant. Then she pretends to no longer be a Christian, in an absurdly overdone manner, when progressivism is the stronger current.

But she profited a lot from her evangelical propaganda novel Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt. Meanwhile, this brand of Christianity provided important backing for the bombing and invasion of Iraq. Maybe instead of going on softball interviews, she could donate her profits from 2005-2010 to a charity for Iraqi children who were victims of the aggressive war.

4. Yeah, I had about the same opinion of her when I heard her on NPR
She sounded like a money changer in the temple, pushing her books unapologetically.

Then all this crap about her loving Jesus, or Christ, or something.

I think she's probably just a recovering alcoholic who clutched onto Christ to start the recovery process, (not that there's anything WRONG with that!) and then went on to make money from her new-found faith in Christ. How nice.

12. You know what else is funny
that you have deduced from your overwhelming evidence that Anne Rice was "pretending" to be a Christian. I guess in your world if she she makes a public statement about leaving Christianity she must have been one of those "pretend" Christians and never believed in the first place, I guess that is how you people get around so many people leaving the Church in droves in the past 20 years, "they were never real Christians in the first place", right?

Anne Rice has come to the very logical conclusion that many reformed Christians have come to. If you are in the Church, if you consider yourself a Christian then you are complicit in the physical, psychological, spiritual, sexual and mental abuse perpetrated by the Church for centuries.

There is really no other choice for Anne Rice and many other people.

5. She's either very dumb, (which I doubt) or a typical capitalist fraud.
You choose.

7. Christianity is not about politics and PR stunts, Anne
It's a way of life in trying to walk in His exact footsteps...the fundies don't call the shots for the rest of us as to what we believe. I sure as heck do NOT believe in their hatefulness towards others! I like her books but she has lost my respect with this stunt.

I do see where this causes others to pause and it draws attention to say the Hippocrates of the "church folk/Christianity " but not worth TV time. Just saying.
