SANCHEZ: Do you know how many Muslims there are in the world?

JONES: I think there are 1.5 billion.

SANCHEZ: Yeah. I ask you that because that’s a very big number. Why would you want to do this to 1.5 billion people by burning their most sacred book? That’s crazy.

JONES: Well, for one thing, to us, the book is not sacred.

SANCHEZ: But it is to them, it’s sacred to them. <...>

JONES: What we’re also doing by the burning of the Quran on 9/11 is we’re saying stop. Stop to Islam. Stop to Islamic law. Stop to brutality. We have nothing against Muslims, they are welcome in our country. <...>

SANCHEZ: How would you feel if a Muslim said to you, what you just said to them? I have no problem with you Mr. Christian, you’re welcome in my country, but I’m burning your Bible.

JONES: I would not like it. But it’s our right. We live in America

1. "Dove World Outreach"
Ummm, Terry?
You're not doing a very good job with that whole "outreach" thing. You might want to rethink your approach there!

3. Didn't Christ preach tolerance, forgiveness and that 'turn the other cheek' thingy?
These self-professed 'Christians' are so far removed from Christ's actual teachings, they're a joke.

12. Christ is in the Koran - this is just one link
Jesus Christ in the Koran

Here is noted, that the Koran accepts Jesus as a prophet, and as a messenger sent by God, and as "Word" of God without definition, and as a "spirit of God" (sura 4,171*), "created like Adam" (suras 2, 3, 5* ...). This is more than what some modern Christian theologians accept, who only see Jesus as a social reformer. Only Jesus as God's Son - Christians in the time of Mohammed imagined this very physically - in the context of the later doctrine of the trinity, was not accepted by the Koran. Christians, capable of explaining authentically what was meant originally, in such a way that someone coming from somewhere else could understand it, were very rare at that time (e.g. sura 6,101*). In Romans 1:4 it is said, that Jesus became "installed" as Son in his spiritual power - and therefore not born. Christians might agree with the Islamic conviction, that God is unborn and was not "born" but "created" Jesus. Further the Greek term "logos" - in the Bible used for the divine origin or mission of Jesus Christ - became translated in the Gospels as "The Word", which is used for Jesus in the Koran. Do the Inspirations of the Koran contain mysteries not yet discovered fully by Muslims or Christians - possibly resulting in pointless quarrelling about terms? Also where Christians present these teachings in words, which must be understood as some polytheistic religion, this is not according to the teachings of Jesus himself: "Pray to the father (God) in my name (meaning with reference to Jesus" - Bible, John 15:16. In the life of Jesus everything revolves about the one God, to whom only Jesus can lead people.

18. Christ is in the Koran
Theology is like arguing whether Santa comes down the chimney head first or feet first.

6. I Am Reminded of Them Burning Torahs
I am reminded of anti-Semites through out history burning the Torah.
All to often, such "purges" and hateful demonstrations do not end with the burning of scriptures.

Oklahoma Lawmakers Seek Voter Backing to Ban Shariah From Courts

Published June 15, 2010
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/06/15/oklahoma-lawmakers-seek-voter-backing-ban-shariah-courts/

Though the question's supporters have not pointed to any specific outbreak of Shariah, or Islamic law, being considered in the U.S. judicial system, they describe it as an encroaching threat. State Rep. Rex Duncan, author of the measure, has called the ballot question a "preemptive strike" against Shariah coming to his state.

15. Do they really think this will win muslims to Christianity?
That's what a pastor's mission in life is supposed to be, but I doubt destroying a text that represents someone's most cherished beliefs is the best way to start a conversation with them. Besides, Sharia Law really isn't any less bakward than Levitican law.

16. Free Qurans are printed every day
Edited on Mon Aug-02-10 02:12 AM by Mrdie
A vast majority from Saudi Arabia, too. Burning a Qu'ran will do nothing, just like burning a Bible will do nothing. Well, it'll infuriate people, but it isn't like the Qu'ran (or Bible) is a rare book that relatively few people have. For every Qu'ran they burn, there will probably be three or five printed at that same time.

(Though the printing in Saudi Arabia raises various translation issues, see: http://www.meforum.org/717/assessing-english-translations-of-the-quran

Under "Saudi-endorsed" bit)
