Dean calls Fox News 'absolutely racist' for aiding Sherrod ouster

By Darren Goode - 07/25/10 09:59 AM ET

Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean accused Fox News of promoting racism, including in the recent fracus over the Obama administration’s forced resignation of Agriculture Department official Shirley Sherrod.

"Let's just be blunt about this, I think Fox News did something that was absolutely racist,” Dean charged on "Fox News Sunday."

Dean said Fox helped promote the charges that Sherrod, who is black, made racist comments about white farmers, which led to her forced resignation Monday.

=snip=

"I think we need to stop being afraid of Glenn Beck and the racist fringe of the Republican Party," Dean said, emphasizing he was not accusing Wallace himself of racism.

4. Media Matters' time line proves that Fox did so air that clip before
she was fired -- because they had to change the headline from "Obama Official Descriminates" to "Obama Official Resigns".

Wallace is a lying sack.

6. He was really careful to say that nothing was reported on "Fox News Channel" prior to her firing.
Of course, they were running full steam on their website (foxnews.com) and "blog" (fox nation) before that. Lying sack...indeed.

5. Say it like it is Howard!
We need more like him standing up and saying it out loud! The more that this happens we will see Faux and other nitwits heads explode. The game plan is simple, put bullshit out and expect no pushback!

23. The problem is that the DLCers will never let Dean back.

Obama's speech at the netroots convention was basically, forgive me for being a DLCer so lets just all be palsey walsey - with the GOP too. Given how intransigent the White House is about listening to the angry Democratic base, that anger could backfire. It could lead to Democrats staying home on election day. It is probably too late for that anger of our base to serve a constructive purpose in inspiring the administration to grow a spine. There are only 3 months till the midterms. Therefore it might be better if we cool it and not criticize. They are absolutely tone deaf to the base and therefore criticizing them might not do much good and could do harm.

8. I found this segment difficult to watch... Fox did everything they could to corner Dean
Cross posted...

FOX Misrepresented the facts to Dean during the interview:

1. The video and the Sherrod story appeared on the FOX website before she resigned. Though FOX is strictly correct - it did not appear on their TV broadcast until after she had resigned.

2. Bill O'Reilly played the video before he know she had resigned.

So, while their talking point during the Dean interview was strictly correct it was, like the original version of the video, a misrepresentation of what actually transpired.

for not preparing him in advance to respond when Wallace implied that FOX had nothing to do with the matter before the firing.

20. If his father hadn't been so well connected, would he have been in this postiion?
And Newt -- Newt should have been shot down when Tip O'Neill was running the show --

and yet Tip and Dick Gephardt decided NOT to contest Newt after his first term because . . .

"Newt was in favor of a pay raise for Congress"---!!

14. "Glenn Beck and the racist fringe of the Republican Party"
I'm sorry, but it really pisses me off everytime I hear a Democrat say that is is the fringe or a minority of republicans who are racist. If it is not the majority, it is very nearly so, and you would have a hard time convincing me otherwise. Republicans who are members of the KKK are the fringe, but not all racist are that extreme. Many don't even consider themselves to be racist and would be offended at being called racist, but when they begin talking about the issues regarding race, their true colors show (sorry, pun unintended). No, not all republicans are racist, but a very large percentage are (IMHO), and they are welcomed with open arms by the republican party, which to me, makes it a racist party.

27. Not exactly Dean's finest hour. He looked like a deer caught in the
headlights half the time and stuttered. He allowed Chris Wallace to play and replay the "innocent" card far too many times and was reactive rather than proactive in this interview.

He was great as DNC Chairman and I'd love to see him back in that position. Not so great as a spokesman.

28. what is really disgusting about Chris Wallace is that he knows he is being cynical and disingenuous
Edited on Mon Jul-26-10 10:51 AM by Douglas Carpenter
when he represents himself as a journalist. He knows perfectly well that he is a vulgar propagandas who is consciously and intentionally faking out his audience for personal gain and whatever limited glory in his role as king of scum.

At least the likes of Bill Reilly, Sean Hannity, Brit Hume, Glenn Beck or the various bimbos and bimbettes that entertain on Fox News are genuinely sincere ignoramuses who are so simple and so culturally and intellectually deprived that they honestly don't know any better. To their own selves, they probably are being true.

Chris Wallace on the other hand is the son of a real journalist. Chris Wallace has the background, the intellect, the education and the culture to know perfectly well what news reporting and journalism really is and what it is not. Yet he has volitionally made a decision to have a career of trickery and deceit and he knows it.
