I mean, we're talking gullibility and idiocy of galactic proportions here, folks. They're relying on the kind of gullibility and idiocy on a scale that possibly hasn't been seen since http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazi_propaganda">the early 1930s...

As to the methods to be employed, he explains:

"Propaganda must not investigate the truth objectively and, in so far as it is favourable to the other side, present it according to the theoretical rules of justice; yet it must present only that aspect of the truth which is favourable to its own side. (...) The receptive powers of the masses are very restricted, and their understanding is feeble. On the other hand, they quickly forget. Such being the case, all effective propaganda must be confined to a few bare essentials and those must be expressed as far as possible in stereotyped formulas. These slogans should be persistently repeated until the very last individual has come to grasp the idea that has been put forward. (...) Every change that is made in the subject of a propagandist message must always emphasize the same conclusion. The leading slogan must of course be illustrated in many ways and from several angles, but in the end one must always return to the assertion of the same formula."

Rachel Maddow Whacks Fox News for Their Massive Flip-Flop on the Sherrod Firing Incident
By Heather Wednesday Jul 21, 2010 9:45pm

Rachel Maddow does an excellent job here pointing out the hypocrisy of Fox News and condemning the Obama administration for acting without knowing the whole story just one day after they were attacking Shirley Sherrod as being a racist and playing the highly edited recording of her on their network.

As Rachel noted when she wrapped this up, "the wonder is not that they do this. The wonder of all of this is anybody falls for it... over and over and over and over and over again..."

No doubt. How anyone can watch Fox and think they are a credible news source is beyond me. They wrap up the segment with Kent Jones doing his best impersonation of how Fox would have covered the Aesop fable The Tortoise and the Hare.

1. What I find interesting
Edited on Thu Jul-22-10 04:06 AM by droidamus2
On the Hannity clip he uses the words Sherrod 'appears' to make racist comments. Them there are weasel words. What I hear is Hannity almost admitting that he knows what he is saying is bull and protecting himself from future attacks about what he said by using the word 'appears'. That way if anybody calls him on it he will say 'I didn't say she said racist things or was a racist I just said it 'appeared' that she was. I just showed the clip and let the viewer make their own decision'. Calling Hannity a worm would be an insult to worms.

4. droidamus2, you are right.
"Them there are weasel words." Yes, and do not insult the worms.

9. an old joke
A lawyer asks the judge "Judge, what would happen if I called you an asshole?" The judge replied: "I would jail you for contempt of court." The lawyer counters: "what would happen if I just think you are an asshole?" The judge replies, "nothing." So the lawyer says, "let the record show I think the judge is an asshole."

27. I watched that this evening
...and have to say I may be more livid now than I was yesterday. This was beyond the pale even for FOX News. And the fact that anyone in the Obama administration rushed to judgement without watching this first makes me absolutely sick. I truly hope this is that moment that becomes the wake up call and alerts everyone with a brain to the manipulation that is taking place in this country by the endlessly streaming propaganda machine.

29. Sadly, I do not think a single Fox viewer will watch the whole tape
Fox relies on the ignorance of their viewers who want to believe their lies. It's like a fundamental religion to them.

Yes, the admin. should be ashamed and I think they are. I hope Shirley sues Fox for millions.

However, in "February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States."

:(

3. The dishonesty and immorality of republicans is simply overwhelming.
It's hard to realize or believe just how bad they are, since we've never seen anything this bad before (or at least I haven't). Even after suffering through the emetic St. Ronald, I still would never have believed that the right wing could sink as far into the sewer as they have today. And my God, how much lower can they possibly go?

It's Americans vs. republicans. I'm on America's side.

5. Nice post!
I agree about the Republicans. Conjure up the most horrible imagine you can come up with in your mind and the Republicans are worse than your worst image. Nazi Germany's SS troops come to mind. I mean, if the time was right they would act in an equally brutal manner to the stormtroopers. This behavior isn't quite yet acceptable in our society - not yet. But the GOP is working toward that end.

The doctor's office I go to, up on snob knob, finally turned off FOX on their TV in the waiting room and switched to CNN. Not much better, but at least a step in the left direction.

I don't know how else to get a hold of you. We disagree about Israel--I'm not a fan of what the Israeli right has turned Israel into--but I hope you reconsider blocking me on Twitter. I've always enjoyed your tweets and have missed them over the last few months.

12. I hope this is the proverbial 2x4 to the face that wakes people up to what Faux Snooze really is.
I guy can dream, can't he?

I mean, geez. Their RW propagandizing is on steroids now.

Last winter, I'd run on a treadmill at a local health spa. Of course, you were subjected to watching Faux Snooze on the TV in front of you. I'd read the captioning of the "newscast" as I was running. Everything was geared against anything Obama and the Democrats did or said that day. I swear, if Obama said the sun rose in the east this morning, Faux Snooze would dispute it. The really sad thing is there are a bunch of inbred knuckle-dragging mouth-breathing idiots in this country who would side with Faux Snooze.

I would hope this country is finally waking up to what Faux Snooze really is and it destroys their credibility in anything they say in the future.

While they have a monopoly on it, there are clearly many elsewhere, including our own party.

17. The Fox Ministry of Truth doing what they do best.
Edited on Thu Jul-22-10 12:56 PM by WhoIsNumberNone
It's as if the previous day never happened. "Fox is on the side of Shirley Sherrod. Fox has always been on the side of Shirley Sherrod."

In fact, the Fox Ministry of Truth could more accurately say "Fox is against the Obama Administration. Fox has always been against the Obama Administration." At least then they wouldn't be lying.

19. One of the worst things to have is...
...a boss who doesn't have your back. This whole ordeal could have been avoided if those responsible would have talked to her before emptying their bowels in their trousers. First Van Jones, now Shirley Sherrod and this one is a gift that keeps on giving for the Repigs, as they can now point their fingers at Obama and chide him for prematurely firing Sherrod. What an idiotic move! The weakness of this administration and their utter fear of the playground bullies disgust me to the core.

We've always been at war with Eurasia.

28. Problem is Fox Viewers ARE that Gullible
Even now they are blaming Obama saying this whole thing is HIS fault, just as the ministry of Thought has commanded.

Why shouldn't FOX lie and spin? It clearly works for them. The only ones that are turned off by it aren't watching them anyway.
