"The Republicans are thinking, why don't they just sell some of their stock? If they're in really dire straits maybe they can take some of their art collection and send it to the auctioneer. And if they're in deep deep trouble maybe the unemployed can sell one of their yachts. That's what the Republicans are thinking right now. But that's not the life of ordinary people..."

"I will say to the Republicans who have blocked this bill for months, to those who have kept food out of the mouths of children, I will say to them now, may God have mercy on your souls"

You know I love Alan, Dennis, Sanders (when he doesn't compromise), Franken, and all true Progressives. Unfortunately, their messages are not being acted up on.
It is time for some eye-opening (for the Obama administration) ACTION. I prefer it be peaceful. We (they hopefully) must Organize some huge rallies.
Not in D.C., but in every state, hopefully at least three locations per state, so we poverty stricken people can afford to participate.
They make great speeches (so does President Obama), but it is now the time for action.
Call these repubs out (bluedogs too and all corporate owned "representatives")and inform the American people what these people are doing for corporations and what they are doing for the other 99% of Americans.
Fuck the DLC, we must re-take our party, or create a new one, based on a real Progressive agenda. If the people are really informed, using actual facts and figures, they will support these things.
Ironically, what is now considered "Progressive", was considered considered "middle of the road, just a few decades ago.
We have to reign in propaganda machines like Fox and RW radio. If Obama would just REINSTATE THE FAIRNESS DOCTRINE, which worked for us for over a half a century, we could force truth on these propaganda machines.
Anyway, these "Progressive" speeches are great, even though a couple of decades ago they were considered just "sound policy", but it is time for Action.
If we do not quickly overturn the "citizens" (double-speak at its' finest) SCOTUS decision, we will never stand a chance.

I certainly agree with you about that! As a matter of fact, I'm going to send an e-mail on the topic. The biased slush that we see on TV reporting now needs to be checked....equal time will help dramatically.

10. There must be something I don't understand about the right's view on this.
Why do the repukes act like unemployment insurance is some sort of entitlement? I actually heard a local right wing radio talk idiot encouraging calls from morons complaining about having "their tax dollars" going to pay for unemployment benefits. It makes me want to yell "hey morans the funds for unemployment insurance benefits are collected from employers for their employees in case they get laid off"! In other words, it is a system that pays for itself, and doesn't involve the average tax payer. It's insurance for crying out loud, and it's never been free! Extend the benefits already!

57. Why do they refer to U/C as an entitlement?
Because it's the only language their base can relate to ... nevermind the fact that a sizable portion of their audience is receiving some form of "entitlement", be it Social Security, SS-Disability or, in some cases, Food Stamps.

Why not sell some stock. Why not auction some of their art collections. Why not sell their yacht.

Why not pull themselves up by their petards - (that's what the Republicans advise.) Every inference is bigoted.

The Republicans are pulling off another one. Completely wiping potentially good brains clean and filling it with hate and fear by triggering their 'I'm superior' buttons.

21. Widening the gap between the haves and have nots.
Cutting off unemployment benefits forces people to accept whatever corporations offer in exchange for labor and services. In essence it raises the corporate bottom line so CEOs and upper management can give themselves unwarranted bonuses, part of which gets funneled back into "campaign funds" or off shore accounts where no one can ever see how much is taken in bribes for favorable legislation.
We're going down the crapper folks, because the voting pool is distracted by phony TV news and corporate propaganda.

I don't understand why every Democrat, especially those in a contested race, and democratic organization is not burning up the airwaves and sending out flyers to high unemployment republican areas with exactly this message?

"By any means necessary."

Republicans no longer seem to care about winning any elections decided by the people.
They would sooner cut the noses off the voter's faces to spite their own greedy ones.
Are they hoping to make America a nation where only the rich & corporations are allowed
the right to vote?

When a black man took office, America lost it's goddamn mind.

49. Great speech, but will anybody outside of the left wing blogosphere notice?
If a Republic gave a similarly tough speech where they accused Democrats (or Obama) of taking food out of the mouths of kids, it would be a lead story on the nightly news.

However, since it is a liberal saying it, it's confined to the few dozen people who watch C-SPAN and never goes beyond there or the blogosphere.

I would have to disagree with the 'humiliates Republicans' part though. I think they are beyond humiliating, it would need a conscience to be humiliated and they really don't give a damn. Even the 'good' ones, the supposedly centrist ones, if they had a conscience they would leave the party or at the least speak out against the looney right wingers they placate.
