Rep. Kevin Brady (R-Texas) looked uncomfortable when MSNBC host Dylan Ratigan introduced him Tuesday afternoon to talk about unemployment benefits and Wall Street greed. Brady's discomfort proved well-founded.

Ratigan tore into the Texas Republican, who voted against the extension of unemployment benefits but for the Wall Street bailout known as the Troubled Asset Relief Program. Brady repeatedly attempted to deflect Ratigan's harsh line of questioning on the nature of Wall Street by arguing that potential -- not actual -- tax increases are stifling capital investment and thus job creation, but the MSNBC host didn't let up.

"I know you have an issue with the government, but I've got an issue with a private industry that's using the government to rape my country of its money, and I'd like to try to put a stop to that," Ratigan said.

"We are facing higher taxes in energy and income and capital and dividends," Brady argued, not for the last time. "All those tax proposals are what's keeping our recovery from gaining steam--"

"That's a lie. That's a lie," Ratigan shot back. "What's keeping our recovery from gaining steam is the fact that the financial industry is stealing America's money, depriving this country of any investment whatsoever, and that is the entire basis of our system, and the government has converted it from an investment vehicle into a vehicle for it to steal money for its rich friends."

1. I love Ratigan's rhetoric. He's right on target and won't sway from the blunt truth.
Too bad more talking heads don't follow his lead on this topic.

3. Ratigan show is the best show on MSNBC
straight truth, no pushing crap talking points on either side and holding EVERYONE accountable. I hope Cenk joins the show and they replace racheal and olberman @ primetime.
More truth less apologists.

9. I agree...Ratigan's show has become a must see everyday
I think he's even overtaken Olbermann in some ways. The Republican was clearly dodging the issue and couldn't even answer Ratigan's question straight up.

5. Good for you, Dylan !!
The interesting thing, was that you can " tax your way to prosperity ", if your taxing gains from criminal activity and diverting the money back to the real economy. Also, as was originally intended, progressive taxes can be used to re-invigorate an economy that has wealth dis-proportionally accumulated at the top, which ultimately depresses demand. His premise is destroyed. The thing to learn from that interview, is that GOP talking points can not be defeated in an short, adversarial interview because there is no continuity of logic and the protagonist, just reboots the talking point, at the moment his comments are destructed.

12. The Republicans game the system. They have tailored their
talking points to the short segments, the time bits that the networks and cable TV allow them. That is yet another reason for ignoring TV. Liberal talk radio allows you to learn. TV does not. TV is just an advertising vehicle. Pseudo-programs arranged between commercials so that you don't realize that you are just watching corporate propaganda most of the time.

On the internet, you can visit blogs that don't have so much corporate advertising. Most of us no longer have the money to buy the stuff they advertise on TV anyway. Good riddance to a corrupt medium. End your cable subscription. Stop watching TV.

18. "End your cable subscription.
Stop watching TV."

They also have designs on the internets, believe me. I will be surprised if they don't succeed in crippling the internets in some significant and tangible way.

10. Why do these assholes even bother
going on Ratigan's show. Nothing this guy says has ANYTHING to do with the point Ratigan was making. Ratigan asks him a question and the dude literally starts talking about a different subject. Its insane.

14. It is not insane, it is standard procedure for these types... their job is literally to lie
they know they are lying, they are willing to lie and they are fairly aware that their paychecks depend on their ability to lie.

These types of people have no issue whatsoever with accepting their sacrosanct ends justify almost any means.

Lying is second nature for them to such level, that indeed they can simply answer some nonsensical unrelated tangential escapade.. which constitutes nothing more than a lie at its basic level because it is a willful act. It is the worst kind of lying: baldfaced proactive deception.

These people at a very basic level, I fear, are functional sociopaths.

19. The lies are bigger
and they're more frequent. This is a bad sign. They lie with such confidence because they know the media will back them up. There are too few Ratigans to make a difference.

15. You want to know how you can "tax yourself to prosperity"?
You look at the policies of this country following World War 2. Because that'ss what we did.

It wasn't the only factor, but it was a major one in ensuring investment was productive and not part of the financial sector siphon machine Ratigan described, and hepled ensure some of the prosperity was transmitted downward through better pay across the whole economy.

All without micromanagement by the govenrment.

But these days, that's "socialism".

16. glad you posted this
Was glued to it yesterday. Pundit Brady was on instead of congressman Brady. Dylan was a bulldog. He gives repubicans hell when they start their bs. I got as worked up as he did..lol Calling Brady's meme a lie was the high point. "Thanks for nothing" was priceless.
How refreshing it is to have a real anchor actually know what he's talking about and strong enough to say so. We need more of this.

Thanks for letting me relive it!

21. I must say ...
I didn't enjoy this performance -- it was way too aggressive. And Dylan didn't need to talk all over the baldy to get his point across. I hate it when Faux talking heads do it, and I hate it here. I understand Dylan's point and agree with it, but there are better ways to get your point across. This didn't do it for me.

Edited on Wed Jul-14-10 03:06 PM by CLANG
They have a limited amount of air time and if the guy is going to rattle on about everything EXCEPT about the question he was asked, Ratigan has to try to interrupt him somehow. That's how these pukes operate, eat up as much time with each answer so the host can't focus on what he wants to get out of the interview.

26. What Liberals in Congress are Responsible... name some!!!? I Dear you or anyone!!!
we don't have power or representation in government. We are smeared on a daily basis yet we aren't even allowed to call out bullshit by the right in our own political party. There are a few liberals in congress, but it wasn't them who created this financial mess... it's lying sociopaths such as yourself, and the posers who pretend to be democrats. Some day, that smile will be wiped from you fucking face...

28. They are harvesting our tax dollars, and blocking real job
growth, and then blocking unemployment benefits, and then calling us lazy. Texas law maker wants us to think that that proposals to tax wealthy is blocking the job growth? Because you can't tax yourself to new jobs and prosperity? Now congress doesn't want to add to the debt. Why don't they apply that excuse to funding this crappy war?

Is speculation of wall street the reason for a jobless recovery? I agree, we can do better than a jobless recovery!

This, giant sucking machine, will not end with this financial Loopy reform bill.
