1. That's how the Vietnam war ended. It wasn't honorable or after we............
............won or declared victory the Congress simply cut off funds forcing us to pull out. I don't know (maybe somebody will chime in on the possibility) if it's possible, but we may in fact find out if they get back control of both Houses. I still don't think they will, but EVERYBODY knows the Republicans will p/u seats it's just a matter of how many.

2. No, everybody DOESN'T know that. . . .
. . . and I wish we would stop referring to that as some sort of foregone conclusion.

Go to this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Party_divisions_of_United_States_Congresses

Pay strict attention to the party divisions in the Congressional sessions immediately following passage of important social legislation, i.e., 1933, 1964, etc. Democrats, or I should say the party sponsoring social reform, dominated both chambers of Congress after passage of social reforms and even picked up seats in midterms. That is why Republicans were fighting tooth and nail to kill health-care reform. They could envision losing power for the next five to six decades and did everything short of fomenting revolution to ensure that didn't happen.

They are scrambling now. They are on the ropes, they got the standing-10 count, apply any sports metaphor you choose, but Republicans are staring down minority status for possibly most of the balance of this century. It's time we all realized that and took steps to exploit this reality.

Best regards, Wally

4. thanks wally
the one difference between historical events, and today, is the domination of the right wing media machine, fokkks news, and the other water carriers..and unfortunately ditto heads are aroused.. still I'm hopeful and going to work for the party.. after all we have too much to loose..

6. Right back atcha, brother!
I was too young to be a hippy and too old to be a Gen-Xer, but I refuse to identify myself with the disco era!

I have faith that people will start to get it, despite the Right-Wing Propaganda Machine. Our best weapon, although this is going to sound harsh, is ridicule and derision. Everybody wants to be one of the cool kids and no one wants to be on the side of those being laughed at and mocked.

And we're not going to get everybody; there will always be a hard-core group of Refuseniks. But we don't need everybody, just most. I don't mind if the rest reap the benefits of progress with us.

3. No, they would have to have a majority in the House...
Edited on Sat Jul-10-10 05:23 PM by rasputin1952
in order to introduce the Bill. They will not have a majority, in fact, I'd be surprised if they didn't actually lose seats.

All of this crap about R's picking up seats is insane...they have nothing, only the hard core R's maniacs will vote GOP this election cycle. They have no answers to any problems, they have no momentum, they can do little more than block legislation that helps citizens for God' sake. Just put up the list of the assholes that voted against UI and they crumble.

The worst strategy I ever seen for winning an election...have absolutely nothing to offer people...except perhaps return to the bush years...:eyes:
