Common sense is a trait which Ms. Palin believes she possesses, but she seldom displays any. In fact, her utterances on the subject of common sense suggest that she believes that it is something is possessed in spades by anybody with a deficient education, either from lack of opportunity or lack of paying attention in class.

I prefer to think of common sense as a position held for practical reasons after weighing factual evidence and considering both the benefits and disadvantages of taking action based on the position. An argument based on common sense is self-contained and unlikely to extend to any other matter. Just because one thinks marijuana should be legalized based on a common sense argument does not necessarily imply that one thinks cocaine or heroin should be legalized. We should also bear in mind that just because one person reaches a conclusion based on common sense does not mean that the next person, also using common sense, will arrive at the same conclusion; he may arrive at a different conclusion, even the opposite conclusion.

While I welcome a rare display of common sense by Ms. Palin, this is not going lead the right wing in general to support the legalization of marijuana. The part of the right which Ms. Palin represents are the ideological Christian rightists, who usually embraces the rhetoric of marijuana being a "gateway" drug; just as they believe (wrongly) that any one who takes a drag on a joint is headed down the primrose path to heroin addiction, so they also believe that legalization of marijuana will lead to the legalization of more dangerous drugs.

There is, of course, a conservative ideology that supports the legalization of drugs. This is libertarianism. However, this is based on the notion that an idea like liberty, like Christianity, is an eternal principle and one should hold to the principle no matter where it leads, even if it leads off a cliff.

Ms. Palin is showing more common sense than either Christian rightists or libertarian ideologues by stating that her reason for supporting legalization is that police officers have better things to do than enforce a law against something that, in itself, is not harmful enough to merit prohibition and is being widely ignored any way.

If your problem is with the entertainment side of the show, it's not my favorite part but it brings in the audience and it's fun sometimes. But Cenk is doing a great job of covering the financial issues that are threatening the world economy right now in a way that makes it understandable, and he's one of the few people that are talking about this issue in any real detail. Between that and their willingness to tell it like it is and question the administration from the progressive side, I think this show is doing some very important work right now.

a) For starters, you say no offense, followed by an offensive comment.
b) You are in a discussion after watching the video, which means that you watch videos that you consider to "suck ass".
c) You don't really explain your comment at all. You are in a discussion board, after all. No sense posting on a discussion board, but not really discussing anything.

Believe it or not, the people here tend to welcome negative criticism if it supported by an opinion and/or fact. I think that more people would love to hear the reasons why you think they suck. The floor is yours....
