She tells progressives to "get off their asses." The audacity of this Congresswoman to tell progressives to get off their ass is beyond belief. Democrats, along with Obama, were elected with huge majorities in both Houses of Congress and yet they have acted as if they were a minority. That is not leadership by any stretch of the imagination. It's cowardice. I would say to her, her colleagues and Obama-get off your asses.

some local OFA stuff.

Where the heck to people get off wanting to be excused from the "hard work" Obama told us we had to do?

4. People want theater, emotion, cute one-liner sound bites, yelling and pounding on the
goddam podium. That's good for CNN , MSNBC and Fox not to mention the stupidity that we call "news media".

5. We DO need to get off of our asses!
Jan Schakowsky is a leader in the Progressive Caucus.
Her liberal/progressive cred is NOT in question here.

She's telling us to get off our asses because that's
what we have to do if we want pressure applied.

Which we DO.

6. She's right; democracy is something you participate in.
Consensus-building and advocacy is the job of a citizen, the highest office in a democracy.

20. Left wingers and progressives are not the same
Edited on Fri Jun-11-10 10:34 PM by Chulanowa
In fact most progressive react to the words "liberal" or "left-wing" like a vampire reacts to sunlight.

They're the same anti-liberal, bitchy circular firing squad that they've been since the early 70's, just with a new brand name

11. We got off our asses and voted
We voted the dems into office to right the wrongs of the previous, corrupt Republican machine and represent the PEOPLE of this nation and all they did was take thier turn at the trough. These Dems turned out to be the other side of the same coin

15. Hey, some of us are still recovering from the effort of 2008, fellow DUers..
I'm just sayin'. And, meanwhile, taking pay cuts while the Palin-loving boss keeps talking about 'Obama's bad economy now'. I think congress people work fairly hard but they get paid fairly well while the rest of our jobs are being de-valued until we're all working-poor or worse. Some of us are too old to sink any more money and effort into this apparent game politicians play.

17. We got off our asses and campaigned for Democrats in 2006 and 2008
(and I campaigned like nobody's business in 2004), but the people we elected from Obama on down have been sitting on theirs since Obama's term began.

That's why we are angry. That's why we are disappointed. What does Ms. Schakowsky want us to do? I e-mailed and all I got were boilerplate responses. I go to my Congressman's town halls. What more am I supposed to do? The health care reform fiasco totally disillusioned me. And there has been no action, no willingness to stand up for the Constitution and human rights with regard to Guantanamo and eavesdropping.

How could we be enthusiastic when Obama has refused to do the smallest thing that we think is really important.

18. I second that sentiment
Worked like hell in 2004 and 2008. I never, however, expected Obama to pursue a truly progressive agenda, so I was not really disappointed, but simply pleased not to see the evils of a McCain/Palin administration.

And I'll be out there again, working in the North Carolina summer to get rid of Senator Burr. We could out tea party the tea party 10 to 1 tomorrow, and we have, but the corporate media wouldn't cover it. It's like living in the USSR. I've been to events where tea partiers were outnumbered 50 to 1, but guess who gets on the news?

19. Voting, and expressing our opinion, is our job. When politicians ignore them, they FAIL.
Telling us we need to 'get off our asses' is a huge COP-OUT, that ignores the work we did to get them in there to being with.

They ignore or arrest, and brutalize us when we protest, they ignore and patronize us once they get in, WTF, does she mean, exactly? We need to get down there to D.C. and cast their votes?

progressives are the most engaged, active, and passionate supports they got, sheesh.

:shakes-head:
