Pretty amazing demonstration of the absorption properties of hay to wick oil. Why aren't there a flotilla of barges in the Gulf doing just this? I know this only skims the surface, but why couldn't they inject hay under the spill and allow it to collect the oil as it surfaces? As the guy notes, the end product could be used to fuel waste-to-energy power plants. Seems like you have a lot of unemployed fishermen that could be used to do this.

1. It's nowhere near that simple.
There's about a million good scientists and engineers studying this problem right now. If it were as simple as "let's just dump some hay on it" there would be more than two guys in coveralls advocating it.
