Jean Michel Cousteau interview on CNN 5/24/2010 .... Video shows pics his crew took below the surface of the Gulf Oil Spill, with the oil shown 5,10 and 25 feet "deep" in some places. "It's going to kill everything" ...... whole approach to dispersants is to keep the oil out of sight out of mind ....

Here is the discussion from this video yesterday on DU ....

1. I agree about how it is all of OUR FAULTS....
every day that goes by without our taking responsibility for our Gas and Oil demands on the planet, we ARE the problem. We need to demand Change but the best change is from within. There are MANY things we can all do to reduce, reuse and recycle as well as lifestyle decisions that lessen our impact on the planet.

A really simple thing; stop eating so much meat!!!

THINK ABOUT IT!

2. Two stupidest questions from the male moderator
(my own words)

In all your travels around the world have you ever seen damage from a spill like this?

Well when this oil eventually sinks to the bottom of the ocean won't it just go away?

What has become of our education system that it produces such planetary idiots that are supposed to be informing the public?

knowledgeable person could tell us what is happening. Ask a broad question and let the knowledge flow. I admire both of these news wo/man for having the guts to put this out. Turning rumors into fact is just what we need. I never watch CNN anymore because of the fear that I am going to see Wolf B. pop up and start enabling the pug lies and puke all over my keyboard....but if I did, this is the news anchor I would watch. He is after the truth.

5. That's right - every time you turn the key in the ignition you help kill the planet.
We *are* all responsible.

6. I don't agree that this is all of our faults.
It's BP's fault that they didn't have safety measures in place, or a contingency plan or anything like it. They were totally unprepared for what they were doing. All they have done with all the huge profits that they make is fight against regulation and over site. Their greed got us into this mess. I have tried very hard in my life to not drive whenever possible. I rode a bicycle for a few years about 8 miles each way back in the early 90s. I tried public transportation, but my present commute makes that unworkable. I had to leave my house at 5:45am and take a bus to a train, to another train, to another bus...etc for 35 miles each way. I would get to work at 9:30 am. The ride home was even worse, and I tried many different routes and didn't give up for months. So I went and got a motorcycle a few years ago when gas was $4 a gallon. I rode that to work each day, even in the rain and made it for 17 thousand miles before some jerk on a cell phone ran a red light in front of me. I ended up in the hospital for a week and out of work for almost 2 months. I have to hang on to my job, so I'm stuck with the commute. I would gladly buy an electric car if I could afford it, but there's no way that's going to happen now. Our government is owned by these companies and they have us chained to our fossil fuel vehicles. I'm not buying this line of thinking, nope, not one bit. If I had a viable alternative I would take it. If I could give up my license and never drive again I would do it in a heartbeat, but it just ain't in the cards.
