1. teaching people to hate
is probably the main function of the right wing media.

In 2002/03 Lyndon LaRouche wrote extensive warnings that his White House insiders had leaked to him that Karl Rove was planning a campaign to demonize Mexican immigrants. Rove said he would use the vast media machine the RNC controlled to make issues out of illegal immigration, Mexican workers and whatever other racial buttons they could push. Within a year after I read LaRouche's article I started hearing all sorts of wild claims on the street. People saying things like "$49 billion a year of tax dollars pays for abortions for illegal aliens". Illegals get free education, free healthcare and even free cars. The rhetoric was ludicrous. The rich were teaching middle class people to hate poor people.

It was ironic to me that of the employers of illegals I personally knew, all were republicans. Illegal immigration was always a republican industry because it was an end-around on minimum wage and benefits. You could even screw them out of all their wages and they couldn't go to the police.
