9. I found this....
'In the minutes leading up to Governor Jan Brewer's signing of the controversial immigration bill at 1:30 p.m., protestors knelt in prayer.

Shortly after the signing, a man supporting the bill started taunting the protesters, saying "get the f*** out of my country."

Those students then started throwing bottles at the man until police calmed the tension.

The man was led away, and one student was arrested for hitting a Phoenix police officer with a water bottle.

The officer was not injured.'

12. THAT was indeed helpful.
I was impressed at how calm the police were being.
and how out numbered, apparently.
It could have gotten very ugly.

21. If you will notice
Edited on Sun Apr-25-10 08:06 PM by billh58
the organizers made provisions for their own "Security" people (the ones in the yellow shirts) who are assisting the police in attempting to maintain order. Other civilians (not wearing yellow shirts) can also be seen holding some protesters back.

Bottom line, is that the redneck brought the grief on himself.

7. I bet most cops (at least the "normal ones") are not happy about this law either
They already know that this spells trouble for them, more work, more confrontations, more danger!

I think most of them (with the exception of the "sadistic" percentage that always exists in this kind of profession) are NOT happy with this law, and would rather be 1000 miles away!

13. The cops I have personally known in my life,
while maybe right politically, were on the up and up. They are often put between a rock and a hard place by the politicians. As for the riot-gear, what would you wear? Either side could have gotten out of control. There will always be some who abuse their powers, but that can be said by many with authority.

Either way, I don't see this going well for Arizona or the country, and this looks definitely like a place where people will hurt and get hurt over this.

WTF are these evil doofuses thinking? Can you imagine a law turning 30% of the citizens of your state into fair game for police harrasment?

27. I feel bad for the cops who are paying for what the state legislature did.
Most cops don't want this law. And now they have to deal with the rage over the bill, while the governor and her GOP cohorts get to watch it all on TV. I say send the governor and the state legislature out into the streets to deal with the anger their law has caused.

28. I feel bad for the cops that are trying to calm things down.
They are having to deal with the violence that this law has incited. The law is absolutely against their civil rights. This is just ludicrous. I certainly feel bad for the people that this law harasses. No good can come from it at all.

30. Like I Said
Immigration Reform is what is going to destroy the repugs. And you can expect more violence when you add teabaggers to the mix. they want their country back. Funny when it doesn't even belong to them. Have you ever noticed that they act as if the Native Americans or the Latinos were not here before them. Did any body tell the teabaggers that their point of origin is most likey Europe. Duh!!!!!!!

the violence.

Standing there with open arms, a very vulnerable positions. These people made Martin Luther King proud.

36. this upsets me
It really upsets me to see some of you guys trying to justify violence.
Violence is not the answer.
No matter how crazy that guy was in the video, he did no deserve to be physically threatened.

I think we should take a step back and not let anger turn us into what we are fighting against in the first place.
There has always been a line between people standing for legitimate rights and the teabaggers, lets not let anger erase that line.
We are better than that.
Violence is never the answer.
