By focusing on the people of North Carolina, and telling their stories, Cal Cunningham is poised to build a broad coalition of support and defeat Republican Senator Richard Burr in November.

This is the sixth installment of Cal's Voices of North Carolina Series. You may have seen some of the others here on DU. If not I encourage you to check them out, they are a must see. And a refreshing way of campaigning: http://www.youtube.com/user/CalForNC#p/u/1/LgmsBP8h5bc

Cal Cunningham is an Iraq War Veteran, and former state senator, running for U.S. Senate in North Carolina.

He's been endorsed by Sierra Club, Vote Vets, Gen. Wes Clark, the Teamsters, the North Carolina Association of Educators, Council for a Livable World, and The Winston-Salem Journal.

He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Iraq.

Check him out: www.calfornc.com

1. I went to his site. I like his 18 times video.
He basically talks about how Senator Burr voted 18 times to send jobs overseas.

I hope he wins and can actually achieve something for American workers.

2. Agreed
I love it at the end of the video you're talking about where Cal says "I approve this message, because North Carolina is where we fight back."

Democrats need to realize that we not only need to defend our majorities, we need to take the fight to the republicans and defeat them on the issues. North Carolina is a battleground state. Obama won it in 2008, but this is still the home of Virginia Foxx, and Patrick McHenry, and Sue Myrick, and the Jesse Helms legacy.

As the video says, Richard Burr voted 18 times to send jobs overseas. Now the small towns and main streets in North Carolina are ghost towns.

So who would you vote for? Richard Burr the lawn-mower salesman who voted 18 times to send the jobs overseas? Or Cal Cunningham, the handsome young Iraq Veteran who wants to fight to bring the jobs back?

I think Democrats have a real shot in North Carolina, if we rally around Cunningham and give him full support.

7. I think Democrats have a real shot in North Carolina,
You would hope so! Being sandwiched between the lusty nuttiness of SC and the racial and recessive nuttiness of VA, you'd think more North Carolinians would see the dangers of electing darlings of the GOP in its current state. I mean, our neighbors have lost.... their.... minds.

3. Sent him a few bucks the other day
Although I live in Washington state, I wanted to support his message. Goddess speed in your quest for the US Senate, Cal!

6. HAHA
I'm pretty proud of Cal. He hasn't ran away from the President, as you would think some Democrats challenging for the Senate in a Southern state might do.

In his first ad Cal shows a pic of him with then candidate Obama: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Duc2UINAw0&feature=related

And in his second ad he talks about wanting to work with him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncJfk7lYR2E

11. Cal Cunningham's biggest liability may be John Edwards
Another good-looking, articulate lawyer with perfect hair who ran for Senate. Some of the other voters I've talked to who have met him have also noted this. I was an Edwards supporter, but, after him, this affinity has made people wary of good-looking, articulate young lawyers who seem too good to be true.

We also have Ken Lewis and Elaine Marshall to choose from in this race. Marshall is the most experienced Democrat in the race, and a strong contender. Lewis is probably the most progressive.

Any of the three would be a good nominee. I support Ken Lewis, but will work to elect whoever we choose.

Ken Lewis

Elaine Marshall

I have nothing personal against Cunningham, but I'd prefer wither Lewis or Marshall to him.
