In what could be deemed a note of confidence over Sunday's healthcare vote, President Obama used his Weekly Address to begin talks anew on banking & financial industry excesses and abuses.

Speaking about committee meetings on Monday, Obama showed that he is pivoting to the economy, saying nothing about the healthcare debate nearing conclusion. He says he will not settle for attempts to undermine the independence of the planned Consumer Financial Protection Agency, so it will be interesting to see how much focus that gets. He makes a bold promise to use all the tools at his disposal to make sure these slate of reforms over the financial industry are enacted - even given the onslaught of lobbyists and financial-backed ad campaigns targeting lawmakers.

1. This, Sir, Is What He Wants To Be Fighting About In Congress As The Election Nears
The spectacle of Republicans defending banksters against even the mildest of checks on their rapacity will be a salutory one for the country....

"When a banker is a accosted by a robber, and told to turn over his wallet, he will take off and hand over his clothes as well, for it does not occur to him a man's greed might have a limit."

3. ...wish Obama would have said at the end, "represents the best interests of the people
of the United States of America" rather than 'represents the best interests of the American people'.....but, I digress....

Not bad all-in-all.
